and you'd think she would be a little more distressed at the confirmation that she's dead, but she was more worried about how she's blushing. We didn't see Yellow and Blue react to Pink being 100% dead either oddly, we don't even know if they know it. It's kind of weird.

But I do agree with the thought that White, although twisted, did care for Pink too and was obviously planning on letting Yellow and Blue go after she was done giving Pink a lesson. I think maybe it could have been shown a bit better in the show though.

What are you talking about? She was a dictator. Steven himself said the diamonds are evil dictators from space because that´s what they are. Or at least what they were supposed to be. They where meant to be the embodiments of oppression and the main villains of the show. And because of that, they were presented as cruel leaders who forced their subjects to live by their rules, and crushed anyone who dared to be different.
They were responsible for turning gems into monsters with their corruption blast and made the cluster, a monstrosity composed of their dead enemies parts. All of this made them absolute monsters who were meant to be feared.
But after S3 the writer´s room got bored of all that and made them just jerks who needed family time.
This is the fundamental flaw of Steven Universe. They presented complex and interesting concepts in seasons 1 and 2 but starting from S3 they just decided to goof off and do simpler stuff. They dumbed things down.

Season 3 had some interesting concepts; Lapis and Jasper actually missing each other, Bismuth and specifically her Breaking Point was really needed for the plot because shattering as a concept had barely been explored pre-S3, revealing Jasper was just trying to avenge her Diamond and finally the reveal that Rose Quartz shattered Pink Diamond. Those are all things I thought were pretty interesting reveals while watching S3.

But I do think S3 did mark the beginning where the show started to take "shortcuts." Whereas before it felt like it was hitting just the notes and giving everything the proper gravitas, Malachite being swept under the rug without barely any use really stung. Similarly things like Lapis just forgiving the Crystal Gems, and later Bismuth, off-screen and no interaction between them just really tells me the er interests of the showrunners changed when you compare how hard they worked to get Peridot to fit into the gang.

They know, they just didn't care about organic life. Peridot tries to tell Yellow about the vibrancy she finds on Earth, and Yellow wouldn't listen, because it's not life they value more than their obsession with their own struggles and hatred toward Earth. Rebecca never actually retconned any of the bigoted, repressive hierarchies the Diamonds imposed, Steven got through to them in Change Your Mind by making them take a look at how the adherence to that hierarchy was actually tearing them apart as well.

Sentient doesn't mean what you think it does. Any creature able to perceive and experience its surroundings is sentient. The rainbow caterpillars in the flashback were clearly sentient. The gems knew the life was life, and they were destroying it, they just didn't care because it's not gems. They didn't bat an eye in Can't Go Back when they knew humans had cities that needed to be destroyed, and in fact they implored Pink to do her job and get it done. That implies they not only know and are okay with destroying sentient life, but also life intelligent enough to create civilizations. But they ain't us, so fuck 'em.

That's a nice thought, but it's unlikely. The casual way Blue talked to Pink that she should be able to dismantle the human cities and not make excuses seems to indicate this idea gives them no pause, and most likely they have done it before. Peridot was so hopped up on gem propaganda, she knew there were sapient talking beings on Earth and in "It Could Have been Great!" still advocated for Earth's transformation into a sterile gem colony.

Doesn't add up. It was 5,000 years ago, so parts of humanity were in the bronze age, there were Mediterranean civilizations and trade routes. Egypt already had Pharaohs. This fits with Pink, Blue and Yellow's conversations about "dismantling cities". These humans would have had cities that while much smaller than our modern ones, were parts of established kingdoms. So Blue knew Humans were sentient life, she knew they were capable of creating simple societies, but she only didn't believe that human beings were able to grasp the full range of emotions she felt. That kind of just sounds like racism.

Wouldn't that mean that BD really underestimated humans. Since she thought humans couldn't be like or understand gems, she might have just thought getting rid of them would be like getting rid of those dumb rainbow worms. Keep in mid gems have likely never seen anything like themselves before, so they just kind of assumed that nothing could be like them. Humans did that too with animals. It doesn't matter if there's some sympathetic/relatable aspect to the villain. It works for their character but they're still a villain because of their choices and what they've done to the other characters. You can't turn WD into some innocent tortured perfectionist; she hurt people, shattered countless members of her own race, and conquered entire solar systems under gem fascism.

Only the Diamonds' words and actions. Nothing they said seemed to indicate they found humans special until Blue talked to Greg and had her preconceptions changed. And this is after she knew the Earth had beings capable of technology and building civilizations. She didn't indicate she found that special or significant in any way, and was still largely okay with the cluster destroying the Earth. Because that's just how their society works.

And I'm saying if they could see humans' capacity for speech and creation and still think of them as being below gems in worth, It's easy to extrapolate out what happened to any similar creatures on other worlds that Pink wasn't involved with.

After who-knows-how-long of no sighting of sentient organic life, why didn't it raise any eyebrows back at Homeworld? They treated them like any other organics. They wouldn't have even made much note of if they ran through a potentially-sentient race because organic filth is organic filth.

Well whatever I wouldn't rule out they hadn't made contact with another potentially-sentient race and it was "destiny" for Pink to be handed it. Regardless I wouldn't say this is any sort of justification for their crusade on organic life.

There's circumstantial evidence at least. Consider this, the conversation in "Can't go Back" is Blue and Yellow feeling like Pink is not living up to what she wanted to take on. They're tired of her excuses, like the cities being "too difficult to dismantle". If native cities were something the gems were unused to destroying in their process, they wouldn't treat Pink's complaints as making a mountain out of a molehill. They'd probably step in to deal with something they've never seen before.

But they've almost undoubtedly seen it before. Their empire spans galaxies. They expand to new planets in order to reproduce more, like viruses. Thinking of humans as being like animals isn't proof they've never seen anything like humans before, it' a strong indication that they don't give organic life a second thought to consider if it has emotions when they destroy other planets.

Plus, the gems dont have that many planets in the grand scheme of things. IIRC, the murals showed them having around 40-50 planets all together. Which sounds like a lot, but sapient life is really fucking rare. Far more rare than normal life.

Itd be s lot to them, and to us, but it's just not a lot in comparison to how many life bearing planets exist in the galaxy. Also a single system can have maybe one or two life bearing planet in it. All they'd have to do would be set up stuff on the other worlds that dont have life and they have the system.
