It feels like it was partially rewritten once they got Jackie Chan on board since the real life scenes at the start and end feel absolutely detached from the rest of the movie.
The movie makes more sense if you consider the setting being Finn's backyard where he's playing with his Ninjago sets since in the making of book Ninjago is described to be completely detached from any other civilisation which it totally would be outside, away from Finn's and his dad's collection.
It would also explain the cat rampaging through the city, the real life objects being present and half of the movie being set in non-Lego, natural environments.
Then there is the issue that it feels like the movie doesn't know who it wants to pander to.
If it's newcomers to the Ninjago franchise then why do they feature stuff like Zane being an android without any explanation?
If it's longtime fans then why is it a soft reboot in the first place?
And finally, it's repetitive with the theme of the movie being yet again daddy issues, just like TLM and TLBM, the self-aware humor of the Lego movies got stale by now and only really Garmadon is entertaining with the rest of the cast being whiny and annoying in Lloyd's case or barely there like the rest of the ninjas.
