>>105279528>>105280656I'm glad these two were posted so I can rant about something completely inconsequential that's been on my mind, joke lineage and evolution.
Assume the first iteration of any joke was incarnated either entirely or almost entirely originally short of some unrelated inspiration, it can be said then that similar subsequent jokes need not necessarily be a copy, the writer may have just come to a similar thought as someone else unaware of a predecessor.
That has no bearing on anything, I just needed to establish I'm not saying everyone who ever made a similar joke was intentionally copying someone else.
Still, whenever there is a similarity between two jokes I tend to wonder if the latter improved on the joke or, willfully or otherwise, merely created a poor imitation on a conceptual level.
These two are a case of the former. I suspect that the first is based on one meme image where a claim is made by one person that 1 out of 3 people are faggots, the second person denies being one, the two then stare at the reader.
The gaydar setup however manages to take this a step further by incorporating a second layer of meta-humor through the use of the comic panel pacing.
The good dog gag I suspect shares roots with a Penny Arcade setup where Gabe's password hint is what is delicious, no question mark, leading Tycho to aimlessly ponder if the hint is actually a statement suggesting that the inquisitive quality of What itself holds a psychical flavor. Gabe however recalls that Candy is delicious. Simple but good, eventually a 3 panel soul strip came out with a similar sequence, a dog is asked who is a good boy and begins pondering what it means to truly be good, he is swiftly informed that he is a good boy to his elation. Not bad, but this takes it to the next level, the all seeing eye dog setup adds to the absurdity of the conclusion.
tl;dr LMAO
