>>105104701False equivalence. You look at the 1940s flash; it didn't last a before being cancelled; gone. A generation then comes without seeing the character.
Then they brought it back with Barry Allen, and yeah, he had a good run. But Wally West was with him for most of that time. Then we had Crisis on Infinite Earths; brand new style of event, character death was a lot more permenant back then, but it makes sense. It was dramatic, final and a great end to the character. Wally also makes a great heir to the title of Flash; he's proven himself, he's been around for decades and he's always been there plus, and we've already had the change in who was the Flash before in the 50s with that being addressed repeatedly.
The idea was set, the character was established to allow for a title switch and the chosen character had been around for nearly as long as Barry West himself who was ushered out of the role in one of the greatest character defining stories for him.
Compare that to Spiderman.
Peter Parker is Spiderman. Always has been since his introduction to today. We're talking 50 years plus as opposed 30. Unlike Flash, there was no set up that the title could switch from character to character. And unlike Wally, Miles hasn't been around for decades and indeed wasn't even meant to be in the same universe as Spiderman.
Plus look at the reasons why Wally became the Flash and compare that to Morales. Why is Morales even there? Why is he Spiderman and not his own hero? Because Bendis wanted a black spiderman. No dramatc reason, no good narrative reason. He's just spiderman in this universe. Okay. Except now he's being pushed more as Spiderman as the main one. Which is odd because he's not really done anything to earn that as a character. It's not like Wally West who's been around for decades having adventures, character growth and needing to step into the boots of a character who died heroically and live up to that legacy.
That might help to explain why.
