>>105092778Despite being absolute shit and introducing a lot of full blown retarded concepts, it also introduced some neat ideas even if George himself was unable to capitalize it.
George wanted to essentially make his own Star Trek, a sci-fi universe that expanded more on the intricacies of his initial world beyond "Wizards fight space Nazi's who we just barely understand what exactly about them makes them Nazi's". While his own plans failed, a lot of other talented people saw the opportunity to flex their creativity.
This is why despite not being a big Star Wars fan myself, I can understand the frustration of SW then vs now. The prequels are hot garbage and fundamentally even worse then something like TLJ, but it actually went and expanded the universe. Sure other people had to pick up the slack, but it created a new opportunity for an ancient franchise to go in new directions not explored. TFA and even the TLJ might be marginally better films, but they're also creatively bankrupt putting the whole world and story right back to where it started with no development. Once again it's back to fighting Space Nazi's but now it's even more nonsensical. Star War never fully explained how the Empire worked but you knew it was huge and imposing, which was enough. I sincerely have no clue what the First Order even is. Is it supposed to be the new government? How did they come to power? Or are they the rebels in this fight? If they are the rebels, how the fuck did they manage to afford even half of the shit they have? How is a rebellion have seemingly infinitely more resources then the very government it's rebelling under? And if they aren't the rebels and the actual space government what the fuck happened with the previous rebels? Why didn't Leia use her influence to stop this shit from happening? She was practically the poster girl of the revolution, why couldn't she make the democracy happen or even make herself the new Emperor?
