Worldbuilding is pretty good, the characters are all unique, the designs are memorable yet simple, the premise is pretty fresh and unique by modern western cartoons.

The only blatant problems in this show are the inconsistent animation and Steven weak development.

The biggest thing keeping people from seeing that, and that got them started pouring over every detail in the first place, was the prediction about Garnet being right.

Not really. It genuinely feels much larger than Beach City and Homeworld. There's always a sense that there's more to uncover and that is in fact, good worldbuilding.

I'd say so.
Once it found its footing it got good, even great for a little while.
But it crashed hard. Not having writers and just letting storyboard artists fill the role caught up with them in a big way.

It's now very fair to say the show is mostly bad.

It's quite a bait-and-switch show. People who thought it's going to be a monster-of-the-week thing or an epic gem war were sorely disappointed. Also, the story moves at a lethargic pace, partially because CN refuses to air it at a sensible rate.

a great artist such as jack kirby can inscribe endless details in his drawings, that lend further insight into the mythology of his worlds. Some dead text that comes from... not the world that jack kirby and stan lee co-created?? but someone's mind, or an insular series of associations? is no substitute at all.

There seemed to be a big hidden lore during S1 with the gem war, the corrupted gems and Homeworld but they fucked up the mystery of all those concepts..

SU is very much a love it or hate it type of show, and your enjoyment of it hinges pretty much entirely on how much you like the characters.

This. Most shows produced after the mid 90s use the exact same production system as SU; a writer does the plot, defining all of the key moments and story beats, and then the storyboarder does the dialog and a rough draft of the key animation.

People on /co/ keep trying to pinpoint the reason SU is bad, but in reality, there is no reason. The writers are just inept and the boarders are bad at art.
