>>104576783>I've never actually watched BambiWatch it. It's a hauntingly beautiful, minimalist film about the cycle of life in general.
>Is Bambi II actually secret geniusNot really. It's about Bambi's growing relationship with the Great Prince in the aftermath of his mother's death. As Bambi grows, he learns that he has to toughen up and stop being a helpless if he wants to be the next Great Prince.
Problem is, the first one was already about Bambi's growth into the next Great Prince, so the whole thing is just a less interesting rehash.
The Great Prince loses most of the mystery and majesty he had in the first movie, becoming a standard stern father character.
Ronno, an obnoxious bully deer, is introduced as a foil to Bambi. But since we already have the Great Prince as a yardstick to measure Bambi's growth against, we don't need Ronno. The character is totally pointless.
The minimalism and the degree of realism from the first movie are mostly lost. The animals behave like human kids, and deal with human problems like bullies and stepmoms instead of animal problems.
