It's just a matter of Disney surviving that long. Their engineers are hard at work developing more independent and agile animatronics. As the company grows and their technologies develop, I'm sure some cross-pollination with a company like Boston Dynamics will happen. It'll be like when Walt met with von Braun to get an idea of how space travel would actually work, but with more robot titties.

To be fair alot of Disneyland's classics like Pirates or Haunted Mansion were at the time original based rides not part of Disney films.

It helps that there weren't as many films back when Disneyland opened either.

For as fluid and amazing as these animatronics look, can we all agree that the swooping motion that they all do looks weird? I'm not sure if it's just because of the technology or what, but everytime an animatronic moves smoothly, it always seems to be leaping into the next movement.

Because animatronics are built to perform a very specific set of tasks and each movement is designed very particularly. The robots you're thinking of are built to work autonomously and adapt to situations. An animatronic can open only a single door it was built for but a robot can try to open any random door it's put up against.
