I remember hearing its toy sales wasn't doing so good so the guys in charge decided to cancel the show. Shame cause I thought show was really good, despite the creators never actually watching the old show, which made old fans mad and worried at the time. From what I remember anyway.

Yup, and the toys were pretty good....except they literally kept making he-man and skeletor variations and finding the supporting cast was hard. They'd ship out like 3 armor power heman, 2 armor power skeletors and 1 beastman. Then the next one would be3 Lighting blast hemans, 2 demon fire skeletors and 1 Teela. Like....they killed the toyline themselves.

Mean while autistic transformers fans kept the worst transformers series ever alive by buying all the transformers Armada toys. Though, hasbro did make them easily available, so.... there's that.

Honestly, I didn't give it a long try last chance I got because the drab, muted colors. It was weird to me that they were rebooting what will always be fairly silly, but just wanted a "serious" color scheme.

I don't know about later episodes, but I think early on it didn't know the right balance between serious and silly, and lost my interest.

You can have silly goofy Orko, or silly and goofy Orko with a magic wand who is superuberpowerful, or you can have mystical and wise otherwordly proto-Orko like in the King Grayskull flashback.

keep Orko, but play up the fact that his current state is entirely the fault of Etenia's screwy magical state, and that he actually was an extremely competent magic in his own dimension. Basically he has tons of arcane knowledge and info and can still do very simple magics without too much risk, but anything big and powerful he tries goes haywire.

he-man was really a product of its time.
first off action figures are not as big as they were in the 80's when there wasn't much in the way of kid's entertainment, now you have video games and the internet to compete with. second he-man was a child friendly version of popular action media at the time, it was sci-fi and sword and sorcery packaged into something a parent would allow their child to watch. now popular action media is superheroes, who have had a toyline before they were big budget movies and are seen as friendly to kids already

Actually it's completely different story. She-Ra is about girl power, something that it's extremely popular nowdays, while He-Man is basically a barbarian looking character. Barbarians are not popular since the 80's, when in every house you could find a Frazzetta poster, and movies with barbarian characters were everywhere.

Technically He-Man would be in the Sword and Sorcery category. Or Sword, Sorcery, science fiction in He-mans case. Sword and Sorcery is something not fully tapped in right now in the west. Though Dragon Prince seems to be gaining success by taping that vain. I Think there's still a market for He-man right now, an untapped well of watchers ready to watch a show like He-man.

Dragon Prince is more high fantasy genre. The Sword and Sorcery, or Sword and Planet it's a bit different genre, having characters with loincloths hanging around. Back in the 80's, He-Man aside, you had Blackstar, Thundarr, Fire and Ice, and in a certain degree Thundercats, and also many movies like Conan, Beastmaster, Yor, Ator, etc. Nowdays there is nothing like them.

I agree, A style like the 2002 reboot is needed or something similar. Though if anything I rather it not look like an anime like in the vain of Last Airbender and Voltron. Nor would I like it to look like Young Justice, which has a nice blind of east and west styles, but I believe would not fit for He-man.

Higly doubt about it. Snake Men are part of MOTU characters that owned by Mattel, so there is need to a special permission to use them. Besides Snale Men are inspired by Conan's Serpent Men, they eat alive their defeated enemies, so they are better fit for Eternia and Snake Mountain.

When you think about the big three MOTU villains, Skeletor is the nihlistic anarchist, who hates the world that denied him his birth right, and wants to destroy everything, turn the Universe in chaos. Hordak is the cosmic dictator, the demigod warlord, that wants to enslave everyone, and King Hsss is the race supremacist, that wants only his peope to be dominant, and everyone else be their meal.

Really cool alignment placement for all 3 villains. I think what I like most about King Hiss is his how he adheres to being a race supremacist in a setting where the strengths of every faction relies mostly on being made of diverse groups, even combining magic and technology symbolizes this.

I think it speaks volumws of how dangerous the Snakemen are when they only work with their own kind and(as far as I know) use sorcery instead of technology, and still manage to be a major threat to everyone.

I believe that the great strength of the Snake Men is their fierce loyalty to King Hsss. Unlike Skeletor (especially him), and Hordak, who always must watch their back, from their goons, Hsss has not such problems.

If I remember right, they brought in the guy that runs/ran he-man.org to help them out with the story. They really did get a lot of the lore right and included a lot of little things for the fans (like Skeletor's name being Keldor comes from a 1986 comic that was in continuity with and meant to follow up the original show).

MOTU wasn't quite in the nostalgia zone sweet spot. Also it was a bit schizo, the designs & the background canon was taken fairly seriously but the episodes were written at an age level below the production value.

The main cast needs to be available in their normal forms.
You can go short on some more detached side characters.
