>>103926471Huh, Peach looks really good when she actually gets to use her mouth in her expressions. For some reason Nintendo refuses to let her open her mouth more than a centimeter. Showing some teeth, grimacing, teeth clenching etc. really gives her some great visual character.
The SFM limitations really show in this, but it was a pretty fun watch. The toads were fucking stupid but at least their bit was mercifully brief. But the squash and stretch, the action and so on looks really good with Mario characters, even if the models were clearly not made with that sort of contortion in mind.
Actually, ever since Mario & Rabbids, I've come to notice how... not well Nintendo animates Mario. Some of the cutscenes in that game just look phenomenal, and it's because it allows itself to be cartoony and silly, but it also uses squash and stretch to pull off some pretty awesome shots too. Like the Megadragon Bowser intro, when he's starting to fly around is just great. Even just Jr. asking Mario to help before that cutscene begins looks so much better than what anything Nintendo's done with him. Ubisoft really put a ton of heart and soul into that game's animation.

I don't mean that everything has to look have fucking Sonic Heroes level stretchiness, but when you're animating cartoony designs, you need to give it cartoony animated flare to match. And Ubisoft, and even this NDY guy blew Nintendo out of the water in that regard.
