>>103740979>Speaking of market, how the fuck do you even market comic books anyway? You want to know something crazy?
You know how Marvel has made a bunch of new comics trying to appeal to the tumblr crowd, like Riri Williams or a Hellcat series and all that junk?
Marvel doesn't advertise on tumblr. They made all these comics hoping to win over the tumblr crowd and then didn't tell the tumblr crowd they were doing it.
>Speaking of which, why is that even a thing? Most modern comic books are aimed towards an older audience, so why would you market it to little kids eating Froot Loops?Scholastic comics aimed at kids outsell Marvel and DC by an order of magnitude. A full five percent of comics sold in America are made by Raina Telgemeier alone (She had the first, second, fourth, and fifth best-selling comics in 2016), and the Dork Diaries series sells massively as well. Despite being the "Big Two", Marvel isn't really a major player in graphic novel sales and DC is only hanging on because of Killing Joke/Watchmen consistently selling a few hundred thousand copies a year. That's why Marvel and DC are trying to make more diverse comics aimed at young girls, because that's what the mainstream comic market in America is now and they're outside niche companies trying to break in.
