According to our colleague DanielPRK, Marvel Studios is searching for a female director to take the helm for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. With that being said, we have been provided the rumored shortlist of directors that are potentially up for the position.

Let’s kick off the list with Mudbound director Dee Rees. She began her career with a series of short films before making her feature film debut with Eventual Salvation in 2008. Her other directing credits include Pariah, Bessie, and the upcoming The Last Thing He Wanted.

Earlier this year, Ress was very vocal about her love for Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther, calling it “the best movie Marvel has ever made.”

Next up is notable TV director Michelle McLaren. She has directed episodes of various hit series including Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and Westworld. She is currently attached to direct the Chris Pratt led Cowboy Ninja Viking, which finds itself in the midst of a production delay.

McLaren was, at one point, attached to direct Wonder Woman before Patty Jenkins grabbed the position. That occurred after Jenkins departed work on Thor: The Dark World.

Another name on the list is that of current Star Trek 4 director S.J. Clarkson. This is a notable name as Clarkson has directed episodes of Netflix’s Jessica Jones. It would be unusual for Marvel to grab a director from their TV ranks, but with Clarkson set to direct a massive sci-fi-epic in Star Trek, she appears more than qualified.

The last name is Academy Award-winner Jane Campion. She was nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Best Director for the critically acclaimed The Piano. She took home the screenplay award and became the second women ever to be nominated for Best Director. In recent years, Campion has steered away from feature films so she could be seen as an unorthodox choice. Although, her track record speaks for itself.
