Me too, they're the best. I love silver age Batmans/Supermans/Jimmy Olsens because the cover itself is a story, and the 80 page giants have like 5 stories on 1 cover! Can't beat it

Definitely. In regards to getting your comics signed, what's your preference? Middle of the cover? Edges/space of the cover that doesn't ruin the art? Bottom of first page?

Got the second half of this month's order. I'm digging Dark Knight Strikes Back so far. Story is more batwank, but the art is pretty good most of the time mostly when Miller isn't drawing women. What the fuck was he thinking with Carrie's design? The weird digital coloring creates some cool pages as well.

It really depends, I got a few books signed by SGM, see pic related and I got the signatures placed in places where it didn't obstruct the art but was noticeable, I'm not sure where to get it for DKR #1, I'm thinking about underneath the title next to batman. Klaus Janson is going too, you think it would be a good idea for him to sign it too?

Godammit I have all of that. Some of it more than once- but an oversized version of annual #6 is hard to say no to.
Oh and it’s got the panther debut too. They should have stuck 51 in as well.
I hope they do this for Madbomb and the eternals.

Batman isn't a great character, but it is a great concept, and his supporting cast, rogues gallery, and Gotham itself make for a colorful array of potential stories to tell. I daresay no superhero has as many good comics as Batman. But this is just my opinion of course.

Why is book 2 of the Ultimate collection so hard to come by?
The other books are easy to find and 20 bucks tops.

Has DC ever printed a post-80's Detective Comics omnibus? After reading the Morrison and Jeph Loeb Batman omnibuses I'd like to get some big collections of relatively recent Batman comics but I haven't found any others except for Knightfall.

As an omnibus? No. There was a quick reprint of a lot of Norm Breyfogle stuff when he was ill a few years ago to he could get large royalty payments out of it, but it went out of print very quickly.
There's a second collection coming out soon, but unfortunately he died last month.

All of the Batman comics I've read were terribly written, but any books that mainly feature his supporting cast is better. The top batman comics from top ten sites were absolute trash though, like Hush or Court of Owls.

I’m hoping they do the King size thing with it. That seems most likely also there is movie in production- which means a reprint for certain.

Short answer- No.
Long answer- No, but there's something about fees on small packages from China that he's getting rid of after almost 150 years. But most of my books at least, seem to originate from the US or Canada, and the one that was printed in China probably comes in amounts too large to apply here.

Joe Kubert and James Stokoe are great, but I think my favorite I'd Doug Mahnke.
He did art for a lot of DC stuff that got me into comics in general, and when I eventually read The Mask comics I loved it so much. And when I started to recognize writer/artist names I was like"oh shit this guy is responsible for SO MUCH of what I love".

If I had to narrow it down to JUST one it would probably be Walter Simonson. For me, there are some artists whose name on the cover alone will make me buy their stuff. Simonson is top of that list, with probably Mike Allred in second place. I'll buy a floppy of a comic I don't even follow/like if Mike Allred is doing the cover.

Nope. BHP's translation of Dokudami is the first time anyone's translated his stuff to English, legally or otherwise. They don't ever do digital releases either, they're all about dat printed copy

To be fair, the stuff they're producing is niche as fuck so it doesn't surprise me that everything is low-print. The only other people that would touch this stuff are Breakdown or D&Q (and they'd just slap it in an overpriced HC)

Most of that stuff was bought in the 2000s, I do still buy DVDs sometimes though, if you get them used they're the cheapest way to own a movie. I got that Triplets of Belleville DVD at a library fundraiser for 50 cents.

Though I have bought the first Preacher book. Steve Dillon's art never fails to make me laugh.

I feel like there isn't anybody better than Jeff Smith. There are different styles that I like though.
Frank Godwin is probably my favorite 'realistic' artist.
Roy Crane is a great all-round artist, could draw action, vehicles, characters, expressions, so much he did well.
And since I like extreme 90s comics, my favorite artist of that mainstream post-Image style is Dale Keown, his art is just so badass.
Eduardo Risso is so good too, there really are not that many people who are that good at everything. He has great layouts, knows how to stage a scene, draws sexy women and great action. And he even has his own style to boot.

If it fits the original artwork better, then I would be okay with it. The coloring in the current trades is okay, but there are differences in the color gradients and some of the ink details are lost.
One page is actually infamous because a single line of writing was removed entirely by accident. Look at the detail lost in the current reprints.

Yep. I chalk it up Wood probably designing the colors to be brighter than intended to compensate for the pulpier print. It's the same thing that most colorists of the time did.
That brighter color translates worse to glossy printed pages. I remember reading Barry Windsor Smith actually being upset that Marvel released something he did without any touching up, because the coloring looked worse on modern paper. I think he wanted them to mute it a bit.
I don't have my physical trades with me, and I can't remember what the type of paper was like.

The longer I look at this, the angrier I get.
The new guy has no concept of light sourcing, instead of the focus being on Swampy, it splits it between him and the sun.
Instead of looking like it's the sun viewed through the swamp gasses, it looks like some orb that's directly behind Swamp Thing.

The We Are Robin comic itself I remember being good, but there was a certain place it belonged.
A very street level vigilante group that sometime had dark moments where these inexperienced but willful teens take on badguys and sometimes more than they can handle but they learn from their mistakes and grow.
The event was just a hair too far. It went to kids wanting to fight crime to kids handling a fucking evil controlling government force.

Imagine if I had tracked down Ditko and forced the bastard to sign my Shade the Changing Man. And it was the Vertigo series. It's stupid.

I know some people who met Stan Lee and had him just sign a piece of note paper. Like, ripped out of a spiral notebook. I don't know which is worse but both make me irrationally angry.

It stops at WoS #1 and I think only goes up to 258 of the ASM series, but if you’re looking into getting those they just re printed the McFarlane ASM omnibus or you can always find older trades that collect those for dirt cheap, try “spider man visionaries” by Todd McFarlane

A friend and comic guy is moving, clearing out his basement in a rush. He's sold me boxes of random comics for about fifty cents and issue. The only problem is sorting the mess. There aren't enough well-socialized autistic people or hoarders who collect DVDs and home videos with the focus necessary to create a professional secondary market around them like there is for comic books or toys or coins or trading cards or records. Movies are much newer than any of those and the physical artifacts containing them are much more fragile than any other collectible object, meaning it's more difficult to preserve them.

Plus the people who DO have the intense autistic focus on cinema and are normal enough to lead ordered lives all move to LA to work in the industry, meaning the practice of collecting DVDs is probably more confined geographically than collecting older categories of collectible objects.

not sure where you're at but just go to some large hardware/home depot type of place with a notepad and pen with the measurements you need and see what you can find, some options will end up being cheaper than others but everything you need is in a home depot.

DC's logo changed when Rebirth started.
The logo doesn't mean that it is Rebirth related trades. The third omnibus having the old logo means that it hasn't had a printing since 2016

Get both? I have shelves full of trades/omnis and also short boxes full of floppies. It's the full comic experience. That being said the best reason to get collected editions is 1 word: omnibus. These things are not only great value but they're oversized and contain full runs much of the time. My personal favorite is the Marvel omnibus. Best product out there hands down. If you've ever held and read one you must know what I mean.

Since the 30's major comic publisher have used the " assembly line" model of comics were you would train someone to do one job and have a staff pass a single comic along from person to person, this caught on because the two guys who invented it ,Eisner and & Iger, made a good deal of money even during the Depression because the rate they could churn out crap.

While mangaka have assistants it's usually menial jobs like background detail or inking the hand lettering hardly ever having any artistic input just helping to meet deadlines. It can also work like a apprenticeship program with assistants eventually making their own manga after learning from working off of layouts done by a pro.

How'd you enjoy the show overall and why didn't you get Knowlan to sign that Venom too?

It's a weird thing now having so many variants people would most times rather get the cover artist to sign rather than the interior.artists
