>>103572274Honestly, that whole debacle could have been fixed in a way that would have really impressed all readers with a couple of simple tweaks:
1) The fight between Mongol and Hal in Coast City results in a 'soul swap' between the two. All actions with 'Hal' explained by Mongol in control.
2) Hal, in Mongol's body, attempts to fight Parallax, but is wiped out (think Peter Parker in Doc Ock's rotting body at the start of the Superior Spiderman).
3) In the process of ripping up the timelines, the human connection for the Specter is cut off.
4) Hal arrives at the pearly gates, wanting to get back to land of the living to stop Parallax from destroying all of creation. He is met at the gates by Barry Allen and told he can go back, but only as the Specter. No longer can Hal Jordan walk the land of the living as a GL. With the universe in peril, Hal takes up the mantle.
5) The Specter curb stomps Parallax, but in the process, Oa is nearly decimated - with the Guardians whittled down to Gauntlet, who is left to rebuild the Corp with people like Stewart, Gardner, and the new rookie Kyle.
6) Sinestro is offered a deal by the likes of Neron/Nekron to be a counterpart to Hal in the afterlife, taking their fight to an enteral level. As a side gig, he provides whispering influence on the likes of Major Force and other foes to the GL Corps, to collect souls for larger battles (i.e. Darkest Night).
7) Specter Hal is much to the JSA like the Phantom Stranger is to the JLA - comes in once and a while to help with big events, but not a main roster character
