It's not a new thing, it just got refined for comics. So again, this related to his costume and what it says about him, you'll not find many purple and green heroes from his era or onward.
The rivets are still rivets, they still evoke metal, and the helmet is unquestionably metal and says something about his character on multiple levels. Again, I didn't claim he wasn't a villain I said he wasn't a completely bad guy, he was doing the right thing for the wrong reasons and in the wrong way, that was his point.
Anyway, the essential argument was "these characters aren't at all like their costumes/their costumes are irrelevant to their character" and I along with others have proved you wrong. Accept the loss.
