Is Avatar really a good a show or was it only good in comparison to other action shows for kids? Like for example anime like FMA, HXH, Eureka 7 and Xam’d accomplished everything Avatar did whilst having better characters, magic system, setting and fight choreography.
I feel like the western animation community is too quick to pat themselves in the back for having cartoon even attempt to tackle a slightly mature theme. Like for example. Having a gay character in a cartoon is seen as a huge triumph but in an anime it’s not big deal being gay is just a minor part of that character’s identity.
The only thing I can say that cartoons do better is the way that they treat female characters. I think that Katara is better than Nami and Sakura since she isn’t mainly used for fanservice or is a damsel in distress.
