>>103037809You see my point, but you're dodging it.
My point is How well the writing handles it. If you do a shit job, it'll be a shit move, but again, I watched both my daughters get weepy over a goddamn talking tree dying in GOTG and Nobody thought it was strange or out-of-place at all that Bucky picked up a gun-toting raccoon and spun around in a circle to spray down a field of Outriders because the shit was executed the right way.
Not a single person pissed or moaned about the hydra reveal in winter soldier and nobody raised a stink at vulture being Liz's father because the writing, tone and execution was on-point. Why the fuck should anybody whine if you've been following a skrull if the POINT of a skrull should be that the audience needs to buy into the threat and it would set a defining tone?
Imagine the Matrix if you never saw outside of it and you only saw agents active within it and neither Neo nor the Camera provided any external context. How much worse off would the film be because of it?
At this point, the only logical next step on raising the stakes on storytelling would be to dupe the viewers on the ramifications of an identity crisis by offering a Logcal outcome of a Skrull invasion by at least having different Carols present in the narrative and one of them with fake memories. With a talented enough writer, it might very much be a contender for taking the crown from The Dark Knight (....I doubt that much could happen, but it's not utterly impossible.)
Again, what I'm putting forth is that WRITING and EXECUTION is paramount. Good writing is why Joffrey dying was a huge fucking deal and not a 'meh'. By the same token, if you come at every idea with a 'meh' attitude, you're just exposing how little creativity you're applying to possibilities.... and that's not a strike you can count against me.
