I find it fascinating that Hobgoblin was introduced a good season or two before Green Goblin finally appears and when he does he manages to secure top spot as the head Goblin and he doesn't let go of that title. Rewatching TAS at the moment and in spite of Peter not being allowed to throw a single punch, these villains actually feel threatning and the stories have stakes. Just watch the three episode Venom arc to see how they creatively get around those pesky censors and truly convey the intensity of Venom stalking Peter. Carnage may have needed an additional episode but still came across as a massive threat.

You should definitely consider giving it another chance. It is a series that starts out as a fairly tame and maybe somewhat predictable cape story with more than solid world building, and then over time Kirkman starts experimenting with everything. Characters, powers lore, plot points, seriously everything is up for grabs in a sense and it confidently progresses forward without even considering a reset button. The series eventually becomes its own beast entirely and manages to present complicated stories that don't have happy endings, that don't have consise resolutions, that progress the plot in meaningful ways that big 2 comics couldn't conceive. And most of all, it is honest. THese characters feel like actual human beings and considering its all written by Kirkman there is a level of consistency that is rarely matched. I recommend it wholeheartedily. I completely understand if its not for you though. Totally cool.

Fun fact: The voice actor for GG also voices Skorn in Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, which made him memorable as a monster.

Toby is a dork, which is to be expected at first, but he never grows out of that phase in the films.

ANd Kirsten is an ugly cunt and MJ in the movies is a huge bitch.

Harry couldn't act in the first and second movie, but he hammed it up in.

Otto and Norman were the best actors in the trilogy.

Topher could have been okay if Venom was the only villain of three and he was bulkier.

Spider-Man 3 was originally gonna be a 2 parter, one part focused on Sandman and the Black Suit with Eddie inheriting the Symbiote as an ending cliff hanger

The second part was gonna be purely spider-man vs venom and trying to balance his life when hes constantly being hunted, this would have lead into the fourth move that would have introduced carnage as the main villain.

Ive started to feel sour on the MCU because as interesting an idea as it is, and how more or less consistently well produced as its been, its really fucking up the potential of a lot of characters, making movie producers go full retarded, and tainting shit outside of its medium due to synergy retards.

Tom Holland is a great Spider-Man but he's probably not going to get anywhere even remotely as close as the Raimi trilogy by the end of his run. A non existant and even then still horrifically underutilized supporting cast (seriously he barely interacts with anyone outside of Tony Stark, Ganke Ned, and Liz in Homecoming), flaccid execution on a number of elements, and they're never going to go as hard as the Raimi movie did with how much Peter suffers and sacrifices to be Spider-Man, or how brutal the fights could get.

I want to be pleasently surprised, but i dont see it happening.

Yeah the PS4 game really gets the core aspects of Spider-Man.

He's entertaining in the three movies he's been in but he comes off as if he's the Ultimate cartoon version of Spider-Man, he doesnt really suffer any consequences besides the ferry and even then Iron Man just bails him out. He's just kind of a wacky child who wants to be a grown up.

Isn't Spider-Man all about Peter losing his innocence after Ben dies? Not to mention him balancing his anxiety and frustrations and making stupid mistakes based on it and learning from them.

It was more subtle but 90's cartoon Spidey had his jerk moments and flaws, so did Raimi's, even ASM's Peter (and it manifested really badly after Uncle Ben died).

USM Peter is not a perfect Angel either, he cussed and insulted people. My favorite part was after the bodyswap he had with Wolverine, he had a dislocated shoulder and Logan just tells him that he "banged up his body a little" he just started going out on the X-Men and ended with "This is why no one likes you guys, not because you are mutants, but because you are %^/%^#" he also made fat jokes at Kingpin.

Yeah TAS spiderman could definitely be a prick, and SSM had moments as well. Honestly most recent adaptations of Spiderman I can recall were able to show to at least some extent the duality of peter parker.

I'm not sure why feige is so insistent upon this heavily sterilized view of young peter, since high school peter was peter at his absolute WORST. He grows up to be great. He doesnt start out that way. The "lol hes a fanboy!!" aspect is nonsensical to me.

I guess I'm biased but i just really dislike MCU spiderman thus far, and for all the improvements the MCU made (suit AI to for monologuing, moving eyes for emotions, diverse/inclusive casting, nailed and perfectly reinvented a villain) they failed on most every other front.

Yeah Peter was never a fanboy. He respected Stark and admired Cap but he was willing to tell them off if they pissed him off and even go against them.

Two things bothered me about the fanboy aspect. One is that he is pretty obedient to Stark unless Tony is trying to keep Peter from where the action is and even then he disobeys because he wants to prove himself. Only when he finds out about Vulture that's when I felt it got personal and it really became about Peter stepping up and being responsible that's when Homecoming really got interesting but other than that it wasn't that great.

The other being that his fanboyism clouded him so much in Civil War that Peter never bothered to ask why they were going after Captain America. he really didn't care and in Homecoming he mentions in one of the videos he makes that he didn't know why they went after Cap. Peter is not someone who would just accept that, regardless whether he would agree with Tony or Cap he would ask what Cap did to warrant Tony going after him.

Also I think people just overhype Homecoming because it's in the MCU and Peter can now interact with the other Marvel heroes. Had it been its own movie in its own universe would it have been as strong? I mean even Feige himself said he planned to have other heroes guest star in the MCU Spidey movies.

No, Sony still owns the rights, which is why Harry never made an appearance. We will see a Green Goblin antihero movie around 2020 as part of Sony's Venomverse. A Ghost-Spider movie with Gwen is also on the horizon.
