Skullmasters' like the best cartoon villain- kills multiple characters through-out the show, steals people's souls, makes people drink blood and devote themselves to him, and makes numerous references to killing, torturing, and cannibalizing the hero. Also he's played by Tim Curry.

I think this had the most effective zombies I can think of because they will travel through the ocean floor, are basically all coordinated and not just a random group or herd and they aren't mindlessly hungry, they want to kill Max and get his cap, know where he is at all times and can't be fooled

Fucking love this show. Richard Moll is a vastly underrated actor and deserves a much better career.

This and SWAT Kats were the first cartoons I saw where good guys could lose and die horribly.

I have no fucking clue, but I think it's complex, because Might Max was originally invented in England, and the toys sold in the US by Mattel, with the cartoon being a tie-in to what Mattel was doing in the US. I assume since Mattel revived Polly Pocket recently, that they could do the same thing for Might Max, but for whatever reason they haven't.

Max's job is to destroy Skullmaster and watch over the cap. Although he often saves the day. I think Norman and Virgil were invented by the American animators, since they weren't part of the early toys when they first came out.

Gonna say my favorite episodes were actually back to back: The Cyberskull Virus (obligatory 90s VR episode) and Zygote's Rhythm about the mad scientist who literally evolves himself past where his brain could handle. Weirdly enough, both actually got sequel episodes later in the series.

There literally are no consequences in the show, Max can just turn back time at Stonehenge repeatedly until they beat Skullmaster.

I watched through this recently. The second season was disappointing because it wasn't as edgy as the first, and they put in that blatant retcon in the final episodes that soured the whole chosen one thing.

How would it only work once? Time was reset. If there was any event that made that method not work after using it that wouldn't matter because they went back in time and that event was undone. The only way it could be something that didn't work more than once is if there was some additional layer of meta-time that kept track of events outside of normal time.

One you accept the limitations of a glorified toy commercial you can do cool things. There are episodes of He-Man and GI Joe that show a lot more effort than strictly necessary.

This is why "it was just toy commercial" is a weak counter to complaints about certain bad remakes.

Enjoyed the show as a kid. But I hate that final episode. "Ohh all my friends are dead and I get to go back in time and do it all over again. Why? Because the show isn't getting another season and no one thought of a better way to end the show."

Pretty sure they were setting up for another season, it just happened to be canned right after and thus made the cliffhanger into a finale. Still, there was a lot of great potential in that reset. Max was likely going to use his knowledge to change certain outcomes and give himself an edge, all while probably risking much more than the previous loop of events because there's undoubtedly some drawback to reversing time and changing things. At least, I'd imagine Vergil would have proclaimed that there could be massive consequences.

There's a couple of games at least that act as sequels to the show. The SNES version is better, because it's a side scrolling beat em up. But the Sega one lets you actually conclude the series like it's the actual finale of the show.

Yup, the SNES version doesn't really have an ending, after defeating Bloth you lose all the treasures and the characters and Bloth sail off to go find them all again. The Genesis game is the only one with a true ending so it's the closest thing to what an ending for the show might have been like.
