And even if you get shot on the way out, 80 percent of all people shot with handguns survive. In fact, most gunshot wounds are survivable with prompt medical treatment.
Frequently the police will take hours to get on scene, set up a perimiter, and come up with a plan.
If you don't have a good way out, like you're on the third floor, you still want some sort of plan.
It should go Run, Hide, Fight, in that order.
