Even if it makes sense, it takes away one of the key aspects of Pete's character. He's poor and has the world working against him, but he's able to pull through by his own merit. They tried to establish that in the movie, but I feel like all the original tech enhancements, attention and such took away from that compelling underdog feeling.

Because one of Peter's key reasons for being was to be a relatable teen-hero that wasn't anyone's sidekick.

Those are all significant parts of what made Spider-man great. Having a rich mentor really undermines that.

I'm starting to have more gripes with Homecoming the more I think about it. It hammered in way too hard that it's "Spider-Man in an MCU film" that the film kind of didn't have its own feel. Say what you will about the Raimi films, but they at least felt like they had their own tone.

What's with people trying to add tech to hero costumes? Look at Felicia. There's been multiple iterations that tried to make her suit more armorlike or mechanical, as if a huge tittied young woman who has luck manipulation and reflexes keen enough to fight Spider-Man makes sense if you attach some slabs of metal to it.

Peter's totally a genius in MCU. He made his original webshooters and expressive goggles. Tony just streamlined the tech.

There's some emphasis on how poor Peter is in these films, hence why he's excited about finding a working DVD playing lying around and his computer is a shitty Mac from like the 90s that he found in the garbage and fixed up. He has the brains but not the resources. It's like how Tony's dad came up with the new element, but the tech wasn't good enough to actually let him make it.

It wasn't that he was a teen or an everyman or any of that marketing bullshit. It was that he grew. Over the Ditko run Peter went from a boy so locked in his own head that he didn't understand why people disliked him, never thought about consequences (WRITE THIS CHECK FOR SPIDER-MAN) and did awful shit like contemplating bank robberies and complaining at people he essentially killed to a young man who will put every bit of himself out there to help people, no matter the cost. And Peter continued to grow and change as a person for nearly 30 years. The people in charge don't understand that Peter is compelling as a man, not an icon.

Placing pragmatism above aesthetics in hero designs is stupid. It has a place in some designs, but trying to make sense of Black Cat is missing the point about as hard as making Clark Kent a disguise for Superman.

couldn't happen: they could, sure, have had Wonder Woman have this convo with Superman, talk about responsibility, talk about loss and grief and power and privilege, but they'd rather stick her in a miniskirt and have the boys quip about whose girlfriend she is

the closest you could get to this in a DC movie is Batman growl-screaming at a potential Robin in some future, awful solo movie about how he isn't fucking good enough because his mom's name wasn't Martha

so yeah the MCU has its flaws but to be perfectly honest, this is not one of them: this is a take on the ol' power-responsibility talk that we haven't seen before instead of some fat old dude in plaid getting shot minutes after laying down the law with a corny old piece of homespun philosophy

Except that was the point. The entire film was about him not really needing Stark's approval, or his tech, or any of that stuff. How do people not understand this? It is a major fucking theme of the movie and is practically spelled out for you by the final act.

I think a lot of people misunderstand the core of Spider-Man, and especially the fine details.

Like, most people don't get Flash Thompson. They act like he was some kind of relentless bully when he's characterized as a good person trying way too hard to keep himself from losing his clique. Peter mentally exaggerates Flash's heckling and we see him do the same with Peter's bad additude. The point -- that perception can make a good friend seem like an awful person -- is lost in translation.

Sane with "Parker Luck." It was *always* a consequence of Peter's actions, deserved or not. And modern writers take that and make it "the world shits on Peter for no reason."

I don't mind him looking up to Tony but I hate how he just passively and akwardly takes his bullshit and has a celebrity crush on him that makes him do almost everything Tony says. It's to the point he is almost an attack dog and I say that because he never questioned Tony why they went after Cap and he really didn't care to know. When Cap asked if he knew he said "You think you're right and you're dangerous" that is not a good reason to go after someone. Hell in Homecoming he still didn't even know why they had gone after Cap or what Cap did.

Compare that to the comic where Spidey is sent after the Hulk or in the Civil War comic where Peter meets up with Cap to see his side of things. If we had a scene with Spidey talking to Cap or at least knowing what he did to get someone after him and still chose to be with Tony I would have been OK with that. But to be frank Spidey didn't really have any business being in that movie.

But it's that reliance and blindness to Stark that it's making normies see him as his Robin.

Maybe Tony dying would be good for his character and finally let them move on but I get the feeling they'll make Uncle Ben tier wank.
