In the United States, this is a really huge clue that people are in a romantic relationship, with one person wearing their partner's shirt as a nightgown, a huge screaming cultural clue in context.
When Marceline discovers that Bubblegum still wears her t-shirt to bed, she blushes. Another romantic/sexual nod.
Marceline also talks about wanting to "drink the red from [Bubblegum's} pretty pink face," which is flirty. This specifically pisses Bubblegum off. Then the fact that Bubblegum is pissed at Marceline flirting with her makes Marceline angry and upset.
All if this is an incredibly obvious and blaring implication that they dated once but broke up, and that's why they're on such bad terms. Bubblegum rejecting Marceline's flirty advances makes her angry but she blushes when there's a hint Bubblegum might still have feelings for her.
This was more than half a decade ago. Try putting a dude in Marceline's place, and you can see why the relationship was really obvious to everybody even then. Other people have gone through all the things that made it even more obvious after that. Short of spoonfeeding the audience by outright saying exactly what happened, it couldn't have been more obvious. You can't compare it to Korrasami when it was clear for so fucking long.
