>>102810328>But Ice King still exist. That has nothing to do with Death's claim in the OP, which was:
>Simon would be the Ice King until the sun blew up>Simon would beHe didn't say "Ice King would be around until the sun blew up. He said *Simon would be* Ice King until the sun blew up.
>>102810032In answer to your question OP, I thought about this too but my conclusion is just that Death was saying this in the same way a random friend might tell you some claim they believe about the future which might or might not come true. We already know Death is far from omniscient, he needed to be told why Finn and Jake were at his castle in that one episode and was going to kill them until he learned at the last minute they knew his friend Peppermint Butler. He also demonstrated a lack of awareness about the Lich situation at that Prismo party and reacted with shock / fear when Prismo explained how the Lich was like a compulsive terminator-esque killing machine who'd lost its purpose and just stands there now for lack of murder opportunities. So while with other stories a "Death" character might be someone you assume has special knowledge of the world, this Death is more like everyone else in the mortal world and was really communicating to Simon an idea that would be more technically accurate expressed like this:
>You're *probably* going to be stuck as the Ice King for a horrifying long foreseeable future measured in millions of years if you don't get out now while you have the chance. But like most everyone does in real life, he just casually asserted his belief in an absolute "you will" kind of way, not because he knew this for a fact but because it's normal for people to leave out "probably" when talking about the future.
