>>102798294I really don't like Spiderverse--as an event itself and what it's resulted in. Like you said, the concept of Gwen as a Spider-Woman isn't even a bad idea for a "What-If?", and the setting that was introduced in her Edge of the Spiderverse issue seemed interesting enough.
But having her constantly cross over with the other universes, especially 616, even after Spiderverse ended gave her an identity crisis. Moreover, I don't even think she was the most interesting concept to come from those Spiderverse What-If's, either, with more interesting characters and backdrops ignored in favor of the one with the easiest to cosplay outfit being their exact reasoning for why they pushed Gwen over the rest so hard.
I also don't like how the whole "We have to cross these people over all the time" thing stuck to several other characters coming out of it as well. Spider-Man Noir has been stuck in crossover book hell since Spiderverse, when most of his fans just wanted to see more of him in his own setting. I remember being hopeful for a third Noir book and thinking Mysterio would be absolutely perfect in this setting. I got my wish and saw what a Mysterio in the Noir setting would be like with the Spiderverse issue, and when it comes to how he was handled, I wasn't disappointed. But I was pretty frustrated by the whole thing being interrupted at the end by the "come with us if you want to live!" dimension hopping gimmick disrupting the events. I know that was the point of Edge of the Spiderverse, tying into the main Spiderverse event, but most of the other stories ended without being interrupted so abruptly like that.
