The immigration problems facing America are in no way similar to the ones in western Europe; Mexican culture is not alien to the US, almost all of them come here to work and to provide a better life for their children. What they need is a better and easier way to immigrate, not to be barred from the pursuit of a better life.
As far as refugees are concerned, the US has very strong vetting procedures in place, said procedures are designed to preserve families and those in need of the greatest protection from war and prosecution. Unlike with Europe, some wannabe ISIS soldier can't just walk over and pretend to be some distraught refugee. The EU needs stronger vetting procedures, ones that are geared towards protecting the most vulnerable (women, children, LBGT, the sick, the elderly), and not feckless male 20 somethings who ought to be back home helping out with the war effort.
