If they hadn't twiddled their fingers with the couples for seven seasons, had a few less filler episodes to make room for character development, and developed the relationships along with the characters, Allurance could have felt less forced. Imagine if by season 3 Lance stopped hitting on every cute alien chick he met, and more respectfully expressed attraction to Allura consistently from season 4 onward?
Like, the fight with the Altean mech at the end of s7 was amazing, but we already had a satisfying final battle against Sendak. I would have much rather seen that time and budget dedicated to an entire episode of falling action so the s7 ending wasn't just a prologue with a cliffhanger. If they wanted to build up the Altean Empire, they would have just needed to cut to Haggar and/or Lotor getting word about Sendak's defeat and rousing the army they made from the Altean colony.
