You know what I liked about season 7? The stakes felt like they'd never been higher, but they really weren't. They were just saving one planet. They'd saved dozens of planets from the Gulra in earlier seasons, but this one felt more personal because it was Earth. And the flashback episodes showing the Galaxy Garrison getting ready were awesome too.

I loved the season as a whole. The only thing that bugged me a bit was how long it took for them to realize they could charge the lions without the castle. Six episodes without Voltron was a bit much.

For the people that aren't Klance fags, mainly just wasted potential. Lance doesn't have much going on about himself now because it revolves around Allura. Execution was very bad. After all this buildup Allura just falls for Lance over basically nothing. Makes her look like she's rebounding on him after feeling betrayed by Lotor, which is a bad look. What also hurts is that it's probably her most major character development, so it feels like she's a prize for Lance.

God, the entirety of the direction of that scene was so kino. Shiro's confusion when everybody was panicking, the sudden shift to seeing the ship's quintessence lines, his visualization of the Balmera crystal. Everything about that scene was anime as fuck in the best way possible.

The production seasons are so far ahead of fan reception the Klancers crying pedophilia couldn't have affected it. I like Iversson as the weapons guy, and Veronica is a good bridge bunny I guess. I'm torn between Sam being the onboard scienceman or staying on Earth as the political leader. If the latter, either from the beginning or early on they recruit Slav for that role because it would be hilarious for him to be Shiro's Spock to his Kirk. The Cadets stay on as the Atlus's fighter wing, give it kind of a Battlestar-meets-Trek vibe, but it stays a true ensemble cast with Shiro at the center and they don't hog the focus at all.

I've thought about this way too much. I'm torn between just doing something completely different or trying a sort of reboot that incorporates elements from various iterations to fix up the missed opportunities of Legendary Defender.

I just know I want Shiro crossing over into a different reality. His current one has been shit to him and has too much plot baggage. Having him stuck in another reality is a fresh start and gives more freedom for writing the story. I'd start episodic getting increasingly plot focused, I'd have more camp/comedy and I'd go more 80s with the art direction and music. I like the current paladins but honestly prefer the Macross style action we got with the cadets.

I'll 99.5% never get to pitch anything to WEP but eh maybe I will write a fanfiction. Allura will like Keith again but he's so dense that romance seems unlikely.

Coran is the one piloting the Castle after Allura becomes a full-time paladin, so he's sort of needed. They could write the Castle out of every battle scene, but he has some badass moments.

For all the shit that people give the 80s version, it's still not that bad compared to some of these changes. Yes the show is hammy, what fucking 80s show wasn't? Especially since this was a DUB.

DotU has less episodes that VLD and had the monster of the week formula and they still managed to make a coherent story with the characters having time to speak to one another and chill without LE WACKY JOKE XD episodes.

Yeah I think I covered all the reasons why /vld/ dislikes it.

I'm pretty indifferent to it since I don't care about either character but everyone talks about Sheith being weird because of the supposed gap in maturity but Allurance seems to be far fucking weirder in that aspect and more uncommon in media or IRL. I always pegged Allura for supposed to being in her very late 20s/early 30s whereas Lance acts like a fucking 15 year old. At least Keith acts like a man, autism aside. Sheith is shit too though and was never going to happen.

Sheith was never good but it did have good moments, like the Winter Soldier scene. In contrast, for Allurance you have the Space Jesus scene where Allura rezzes him. They clearly wanted to give them touching moments but it was horrible cringe.

Them being friends/bros for a while and eventually getting together would've been so much better. Plus it would let Lance have a buddy in the cast who isn't constantly annoyed by him and it'd let Allura be less of a friendless authority figure above the other paladins.
