I know you're just going back to school now, young one, but I'll teach you a lesson now. There's a dominant belief with timetravel known as the Butterfly Effect. A tiny change causes ripples of tiny changes that all accumulate into a big change.
Example:
Bob and Mary met in a book store, fell in love, got married, and had Susie.
Susie goes back in time to see her parents fall in love for the first time. She accidentally bumps into a fruit stand and an apple rolls out.
The fruit merchant goes to pick up the apple, partially blocking the way of the sidewalk right when Bob's walking to the book store. He's delayed half a second because he had to walk around the fruit merchant.
Bob is now not only a half a second behind the original timeline, he now has different thoughts forming. Maybe that little obstruction put him in a slightly bad mood. Just enough for Mary to be not as in love with him and maybe pass up on him.
Maybe by that half a second he missed Mary totally as they went to different aisles of books, and so they never meet or do more than glance at each other.
Story time over. Now imagine that, but over that span of THOUSANDS OF FUCKING YEARS. And with major events such as Aku eradicating whole species, continents, peoples, cultures... Introduction of aliens, robot people, magical elements.
Fucking hell, it's crazy.
