>>102217583>Why you don’t like GF?Because it felt like a treason.
Think of it, what was the premise? Average kids (you can relate to) spend summer holiday with relatives (a common situation) in Oregon (a real place) in a little town (you can relate to) where strange things happen (uncanny, you CAN’T relate to).
You enter the premise expecting something along the lines of X-files, Twin Peaks, the Iron Giant and so on.
Look that video for example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BhNIecUq_UThat’s not a stone, it’s a sea animal close to urchins. The Chileans call it piure and it has no name in English. But if you never bother opening the cask by curiosity or by accident you could live your whole life right nearby that thing without knowing it’s an animal.
After seeing that video you realize the World is a place yet full of mysteries where appearances can’t be trusted. And you start wondering if a critter is about to crawl out of your floor right now, if trees are sentient, if the sky is actually green and we are all color-blind…you know, the soul of Paranormal.
That is what you expected from GF, not unicorns and memes.
And I’m sure most of /co/ felt deceived and disappointed the same way. That’s why we despise Alex Hirsch as if he was a cheating girlfriend. That’s why /co/ is so wary and scornful towards new shows, trying not to get fooled again.
GF was more or less of a trauma for this board. GF was our gf, our first love, and now it’s our ex. Alex is our ex, the ex we try to forget about.
