Both series are fundamentally built on the idea of portraying what the psychology of genre archetype characters would actually have to be like for them to behave the way they do (What kind of man abandons his family to build military robots? What kind of man wears a colorful costume and goes out looking for trouble?) and both series ended up causing some pretty dramatic changes in their genres.
Their influence is kind of like how Scream ensured nobody could ever tell a straight, tropey slasher story again without at least a little self-awareness.
