>>101911931Let me tell you about Homestuck
50% of the story is fine, its odd but not extremely off putting. Even the low points can be written off as terrible jokes.
Naturally, since it's pretty good it gets popular so midway through the comic (I say midway but originally it was going to be most of the way through. Maybe a solid 75% even) Hussie thinks "Wouldn't it be great if I got money from this" so he launched a Kickstarter for a Homestuck Game with a Fan-Fucking-Tastic trailer promoting it showcasing some of the best moments from the comic, even though this is basically all the info we get people throw tons of money at it, hell I might have too if I had read the comic back then.
Hussie puts a couple people in charge of the Comic while giving them a basic outline of how events in the comic are supposed to go, though for the most part they do have free reign
These people use 2000 pages changing characters to make everyone cater to the new fanbase. Everyone is gay, Rose starts drinking and then dies, Heroic/Just judgement mean nothing. Troll Ancestors get turned into punchlines and then forgotten about, it's a complete shitshow front to back with the only redeeming moments be the ones where Hussie himself has to write because they need to go specific ways.
Unfortunately, things don't go too well on Hussies side either. The money he gives to a company to work on Hiveswap is put toward Kings Quest instead and there's literally nothing he can do about it. Coupled with his Dad dying and his comic being run into the ground it's no wonder the dude became distant, of course this is no excuse, especially for what comes next
After the comic ended, the two people who spent time writing/drawing it got put toward Hiveswap along with a few others, the game got released, things weren't great but weren't terrible
Afterward, the shitheads start tweeting whatever they want about the new Trolls. From shitting on past characters to declaring people to be bi/trans
Viz fired everyone
