>>101864090She was a fanartist who caught Sugar's eye on tumblr and got a job on the show, a dream come true.
Then, since Sugar ran a loose ship and the storyboarders essentially got to also write the episodes, or at least come up with ideas that weren't shot down unless they were total shit or severely clashed with Sugar's vision, Zuke was able to influence canon on the episodes she was working on.
She ships Lapidot like crazy, and of course pushed for her otp to become canon and also in general tried to project her own issues onto Lapis and Peridot as "representation", so we got Lapis and Peri being morphed into an artsy lesbian couple living in the countryside in their barn atelier inventing contemporary art, all that. A lot of people felt they became somewhat ooc and the characters suffered because of this. Sugar tried to steer her back on course.
Apparently, however, both the concepts of having to do as the showrunner/creator/your boss says, even when you don't agree with them, and the tight schedules and deadlines of the industry got to her.
In addition, at first when hired she was very cordial with the fans and interacted with them a lot, which is a disastrous mistake on a progressive, popular show like SU; fans started thinking she owes it to them to give info, word-of-god statements on which ships are toxic and which okay and interaction, and started harassing her on every medium available, including online games like WOW or such iirc.
All this got to be a bit much and she apparently started having emotional meltdown problems and bashing Sugar "anonymously", calling her all sorts of names online on secret blogs or whatever and claiming that the show was a hostile work environment or something like that. Eventually she quit or was told to quit and had some more meltdowns.
Moral of the story: if you hire fans with zero industry experience aside from fanart from tumblr to work on your show, monitor them closely, as they WILL bring shipping into it.
