I think people are either just taking the OP too literally or ignoring everything the book actually says.

It's more like she's pretending to be more helpless than she is (which I guess is an issue on its own), rather her being a super intelligent 4D chess master who knows everything about Earth already the way some people are taking it as.
Basically she wants Marco to feel like he can "save" her since she knows he prefers having control over situations, which then came back to bite her in episodes like Blood Moon Ball when she wanted not to be saved. Which is retarded in its own way.
