how come bat/Barbra is more papular than Bat/Cassandra?

Don't get me wrong I love Barbra. but Cassandra was a badass Batgirl and had her own run from the 90s till 00s with her own villains. she had an awesome origin. we saw her evolve.

Exposure and seniority. Babs is a good character, but as of late she's kind of fallen off the wagon because marketing her has taken priority over giving her good stories. Moreover, I personally preferred her staying in the wheelchair as Oracle. Thing about Cass and Steph is that casuals just aren't familiar with them, thus rendering Barbara Gordon as THE Batgirl for the public eye.

but the Batman TAS which aired in 1995 introduced her as Batgirl.

Ironically, if Cass or Steph took the mantle in the 80s or even the early 90s when Wally and Kyle were settling in, they may have gotten more exposure. Unfortunately for them, they came around the time the nostalgia fags were taking over and forcing returns to ancient status quos whether people wanted them or not.

If I could be bothered I'd go and try to compare the sales of Cass' Batgirl run and any of the "babs can walk again" books.

Gut feeling is that Cass probably sold a lot more cause every book sold a lot more back then. Even though Cass' book had some dodgy art and never got a full TPB release.

Not at all. Neither company gives a shit about convoluted continuities. DC used to be fine adapting legacies like Tim Drake, Wally West, Kyle Rayner and John Stewart. They confused the hell out of people when they brought back Barry and Hal. The real reason is that nostalgia fag execs got into power and forced Barbara back into the role as Batgirl. They are the same type of people who think Peter Parker should always be a broke, miserable and lonely loser because that was how he was when they were reading comics.

Can you explain Kyle or wally or cass and steph without mentioning the legacies? Kyle's origin involves Hal destroying the Green lantern corps, Wally's origin involves Barry dying in crisis on infinite earth, Cass and Steph's stories involved obscure Batman villains.

Babs retired and then got shot by the Joker. Cass took over for her after they met during an earthquake and subsequent assasination attempt of Commissioner. She gave the suit to Steph after Bruce died and she lost faith in the Batfamily.
