1B is the best because Steven is neither the piece of shit he is in 1A neither the Mary Sue he has become on lately. 2 was great because it had all the Peridot/mutants arc before Zuke ruined her character and the overall show with memes. 1A was very entertaining and had this sense of wonder before the world, characters and lore were really defined and anything could happen. 5 is good because a lot of reveals after some good time of bullshit episodes. 3 is ok but boring. I only liked the zoo arc in 4, the rest was literally filler and missed opportunites.

S1 had some amazing stuff, but it was also experimental. That's the reason why a lot of people don't seem to get that the show has moved on from random adventures because there's not really a lot you can do when you pidgeonhole yourself into a monster of the week sort of thing.

Really the biggest problem with SU is the 11 minute format and the pacing. Everything else is just nitpicking really.

there is a fine line between not wanting to be pigeon holed, and dedicating its a good idea to do an entire episode to some unnamed autists jacking each other off with bugs

the freak-of-the-week stuff was actually a pretty great way to tell this story second hand, and the threat escalation was pretty consistant.

true but season 4 is also good. The release by Cartoon Network (with hiatus and bomb and shit) screw the pacing.
I constantly watch the show on Bluray and stream (I know i'm not alone) and in even the season 4 is way better with its balance restored.
Most of people complaining are focused on gem-drama forgetting that beach city episode aren't filler but serve to talk to various subject that further characterization.
Steven Universe has no bad season just some episode that can be both hit or miss depending of interest and sensitivity of each viewer.

How the fuck is season 2 a filler season, it was heavily focused on tracking down and redeeming Peridot and dealing with the fallout of the end of season 1, as well as expanding on some basic lore and furthering character motives. It's possibly the least filler season in the whole show.

Yeah I'm looking at the episodes more closely and I think I would replace the powergap with it. I put it as a filler season because I looked at the episode list and saw Nightmare Hospital right next to Sadie's Song and remembered the endless miasma of disinterest that followed all the way through every season of the show that followed up until this point. Watching through those seasons is like a mini version of the old thought of coasting through life waiting for it to start and then realizing that your life was your life on your death bed and it fucking sucked because you didn't do anything meaningful with it.
The Peridot chase was kinda fun and Sworn to the Sword is really memorable. Honestly though what has Peridot even done? Her character has done nothing but degrade. She made a drill or whatever for the cluster but I don't fucking care.
