Last Nova run by Loveness and Perez had Rider lose his costume the same way Sam does whenever he took off the helmet. They made it look like he lost his powers as well.

In what way? He was called Nova Prime since the first time he became Nova.

The only thing is that the definition of Nova Prime might have changed. Originally it was just the Nova with super powers, then the other Novas got powers and Adora still called him Nova Prime, then DnA changed it to being the leader of the Novas and the strongest one.

Also there is nothing that has said that his status as Nova Prime is revoked.

There are panels of Rich taking his helmet off and his costume disappearing with it in the older comics so this isn't good proof.

Not to mention in the first issue he makes his helmet come to him and in the Cancerverse he could use the Nova Force plus Cosmic cube without having the helmet on.

Still Nova Prime is such a weird thing because the comics never really defined what that meant. Even before Annihilation Rich was Nova Primr and he STILL wasn't the leader of the Nova corps.

I just want the Guardians to be respectable again. I want Star-Lord to go back being a real legendary soldier who is smart, takes no shit, and is respected by whole armies. I want Rocket to go back to be a guy who might be rough but has a deep respect for their friends and can share his fucking feelings without behaving like an ass. I want Drax to go back to be this cold-blooded, intelligent, feared warrior who takes no shit from anyone, not even their teammates. It is implied due to his current helmet being a centurion. During the DnA run, anyone who was Nova Prime had to more points on the helmet than the centurion. Not that that matters now since the nu-corps don't use the old ranking system anymore, aren't led by him and he is the last real standard powered Nova Centurion in the universe left again.

The movies are a pretty legit re-interpretation of the Guardians while keeping in line with some of the ideas of DnA's run.

Don't blame the movies for Marvel writers being retarded. The Guardians in the movies all develop a ton and have gotten a little bit closer to their comic versions. It ain't James Gunn's fault Marvel turned the comic versions into surface level expatriated movie characters.

DnA killing him is what made things bad for him since Loeb seeing a vacant spot for Nova is what gave him the idea to make Sam and it's why Rich went into the backburner for a long ass time.

Also Duggan mentioned that he wanted to use Rich in his Nova run but Marvel didn't let him meaning Marvel was purposedly blocking other writers from using Rich.

But yeah it's funny how GotG is more popular when at one point Nova was more popular than them. But really they shouldn't have let Gunn mess with the Nova corps. That said the saving grace for Rich is that Studios separated from Entertainment otherwise if they had made a Nova movie it would have never been about Rich (just look at how he's absent from the cartoons and mostly every other stuff with the exception of MvC and Marvel Heroes and both are pretty dead now anyway).

I never saw Duggan saying he wanted to do anything with Rich. I remember looking at an AMA he did on Reddit when he first started on Nova, and he said he only intended to write Sam.

Also in Duggan's comic he tells Adsit what he wants to do and when Adsit asked himbto come and help him with the dead Nova ship it's done as a favor.

Even in Duggan's GotG he does what he wants. Star-Lord got upset because Rich left on his own to look for Robbie and wasn't there when the Raptors attacked.

The helmet going to Rich doesn't disprove the notion that writers thought the power is in the helmet. Him having power without the helmet in the Cancerverse scene is also questionable since even Sam is shown being able to take off his helmet but still have the costume on as long as he is in proximity to it for at least a little while. I ain't saying Rich shouldn't have his powers if he loses his helmet. I just wonder after pages like the one I posted whether or not the writers know better.

The other thing is that in Loveness' comic Death's Head and Titus specifically go to retrieve Sam's helmet and put value on it. Titus only mentions taking Rich's helmet as a trophy but the value is put into Sam's helmet as being powerful.

Honestly it's pretty vague.

Current Rich is pretty much the same as before, and with that i mean he does the same things, the only difference is that the Worldmind isn't there to tell him what he is doing wrong every page

I don't get what difference would it make if Rich was alive or not. Sam was coming anyways and DnA was out. It was completely inevitable. People should be happy Marvel found a way to make them both co-exist so far. In a pick between Rich and Sam, I'm tempted to say MCU studios will pick Sam because of his diversity points and potential for thousand movies giving he's supposed to start young.

Sam's design is too young for the MCU. The exposure he got isn't much more than Rich's. Sam's comics never got much sales or acclaim so adapting him doesn't really do anything that making a race swapped Rich movie wouldn't achieve.

Wrong comparison, because Mar-Vell died in the early 80's and since then there have been three Captain Marvels before Carol. But unlike them, only Carol rose to prominence. Nobody really gave much of a fuck about Monica (specially considering she went through several other nicknames), Genis was too obscure and by the time Phyla took the spotlight, she became Quasar instead.

Rich started when he was young too and has more stories under his belt. He's also the Nova Gunn and Perlman are more familiar with and they both are involved with the cosmic side of the MCU. Gunn might not care about him but he knows people like him and he's not petty enough to be angry because of that one autist because after the incident when a fan asked specifically about Rich in his Video Q&A he said they were considering him. Rich is also one of perlman's favorite characters and she brings him up on interviews even when people don't ask her about him.

If Feige wants his diversity points he'll just raceswap Rich or make him Latino (which lets face it was never an important part of Sam's identity until Perez touched him and it felt forced because his mom was suddenly talking in Spanglish which was something she never did before not to mention Sam can't speak Spanish).

Also Sam happened because Rich was dead, Loeb admitted that when he learned Rich was dead he saw a vacant spot for the Nova role and since they were a corps he got the idea to make his own Nova OC.

He isn't, holy shit, stop repeating this lie. He gave the helmet as a deference to Eve Bakian but his suit didn't fade, and it was mostly to show her his rank since it had 6 points (Centurion) instead of four like hers (Denarian). That was the entire point of that scene, not to give her his weapon. I'm not sure why people still fucking think he's useless without the helmet, when there's a lot of Nova corps who have a helmet but are depowered.

And no he quits the first time because he wanted to go back to Earth and because he missed his family. Adora just told him that they needed the Nova Prime's powers and that he would have to give them up if he quit, he agreed to it but it was still Rich's choice to stay or leave.

That said it was revealed in New Warriors that he kept his powers anyway but that they just lay dormant and if you read Nova vol. 2 and New Warriors the Xandarians screw around with him and Rich talksback to them when he doesn't agree with their shit.

I am reading the comic, and it's pretty clear to see the writers' intent in making him and Sam a lot more similar.
One of the biggest criticisms against Rich is that hes a carbon copy of Green Lantern, and making him need his helmet like a GL needs their ring doesn't help at all.

That wasn't the point of the scene you fucking spic. Hes making himself defenseless in front of someone who openly didn't trust him. She was hostile towards him when they met, and him offering up his powers was to show he wasn't a threat.

There wasn't a Nova corps when Nova started it was just a Nova Prime and the rest were Xandarian soldiers who had no powers. Rich's origin only mirrors Hal's in the fact that they get powers from aliens and Rich never met Dey nor was he worthy of anything like Hal was. He got his powers because Dey blindly sent them to Earth and he hoped whoever got them was a good person and that they would take care of Zorr, protect Earth, and avenge Xandar. Rich was just in the right place and the right time (there's even a What-If of other characters getting the powers including Peter Parker).

Not to mention getting powers from a dying alien is a common trope, both Power Pack and Animorphs have kids getting powers from a dying alien. As for the space cop thing Rick Random:Space Detective and Lensmen did it first.

Writers started making Nova into GL as time went on but he wasn't a GL copy. also there is still nothing that indicates that Rich gets his powers from his helmet, get me a shot of Duggan or loveness saying that he did then I will be buttblasted with you.

Sam has the body of a prepubescent boy. Casting a single actor for him is next to impossible for the MCU. They would have to replace him every movie to keep him young or gamble that the kid wouldn't grow up ugly and weird. Considering the movies race swapped Domino, the Ancient One and Heimdall, it ain't that far fetched that Rich could get the same treatment as well if they felt like getting those diversity points. Maybe they would use Sam in name only but considering how Gunn ain't a fan of Marvel cosmic shit that came after DnA, I doubt it.

Gunn is most likely reading Duggan's run, he follows him and Kuder on twitter and ocassionally likes fan posts.

He just hated Bendis's run and a loy of what came dyring that period but he did read Abnett's Guardian stuff and Slott's Silver Surfer.

As for Nova he's more familiar with Rich, probably is only vaguely aware of Sam not to mention Feige said he patrols fan boards to know what the fans want and as retarded Reddit can be they also mostly want Rich (him and Moon Knight are the two most requested characters).

Well the Marvel Comics people can't control anything Marvel Studios does but they are privy to some inside knowledge but it's limited.

I think Yoshida was playing favorites with Darkhawk and Sleepwalker and it's also because he's tight witn Sims. However what with Riri getting her own look, Amadeus becoming Brawn, and the rumor about Miles becoming Spy-D, it's making me wonder if Zub is going to give Sam his own identity and if all of this might have to do with Yoshida wanting to give the legacies their own names and identities. It's also making me think that if Sam gets a new name that might mean Marvel Studios has already decided that they'll be going with Rich as Nova and that Marvel Entertainment knows this and it's why they would have no problem giving Sam his own stint.

But really who knows WTF is happening behind the scenes, all we can do speculate.

I would love to have a good comic starring those two that goes beyond 70 issues but I know that will never happen.

Yeah and it looks like his intentions right now is to prop up the Ravagers to take over as the new GotG. He did say they were going to be really important to the future of the MCU so they will definitely come back.

He also teased Quasar but I get the feeling he will make Phyla Quasar. I don't know how many Quasar fans there are out there but I know this one woman who is a big Wendell fan and she would hate that if it happened.

DnA retconned some stuff too like Rich getting his powers by random chance it was changed to him getting his powers because he was an average joe (and they had Dey make a speech to Rich in Rich's mind about it). They also retconned other minor stuff from Rich's origin but nothing really noteworthy. It also looks like they ignored Saal's development in Nova vol.2 and New Warriors and his death and just went straight up to crazy Saal. Then again they never got to explain the Saal stuff.
