Pearl had a good life though, compared to the average gem. She wasn't just a slave her entire life. She spent thousands of years basking in mutual love and respect with her diamond. Could a regular gem have the luxury of having something like a "favourite tree" like Pearl did? Yeah Rose moving on romantically ate away at her but honestly Rose becoming Steven was the best thing that could happen to her psyche-wise. Yes, you forgot that now she has to raise Rose’s son, who has the pink diamond gem and essentially is her, but is also not her, has none of her memories, and is half weird disgusting monkey creature. she was at slave at first but it started to evolve since pearl was treated by far better than most pearls out there.

Honestly it’s even worse than that. At least a crazy fanatic had a choice in regards to who they made the focal point of their obsession. You can’t say the same about Pearl since she was literally created to be an obedient trophy slave.

She’s not the terrifying renegade who was inspired to break her chains of servitude and join a rebellion by a soldier turned revolutionary, she’s a tailor made servant who followed her bratty master’s orders to the letter until she got NTR’d by the local wildlife. Her love for Pink/Rose is not legitimate in the slightest.

I think Rose loves many people all at once and Pearl was one of the more important ones

Also, Rose didn’t become a human for Greg, she became a human with Greg’s help. Rose loved humans before Greg and I think she met a human she wouldn’t mind living a human life with which is why she decided to try being a human then and not before.
I also think that Rose wanted Pearl to take care of her son due to that love.

Honestly, the entire story had it's throat slit in a bloodletting ritual to celebrate a lesbian wedding.

I'm an author. I've been writing my entire life. To me, the telling of stories has taken on an almost religious, divine quality.

What Rebecca Sugar did was a Sin. She has taken a story, which underneath all the bullshit, was still solid, and reduced it all down to 'Pff, just kidding.' Reduced it to a little joke that has had drastic, but ultimately meaningless consequences.

It's worse than that though. The door was open for a truly spectacular story, something with POWER. This could have addressed the impossible problem ' How do we make peace with those who's family we have murdered. ' and 'How can we forgive those who have murdered our families. '

Now the biggest issue in the story is 'Sorry about that, took my joke a little too far, and also i'm not responsible for any of my actions ;P'

It's disgusting.

Pearl is no longer a revolutionary. She no longer has any literary power. To be honest, not a single character in this story has any literary power anymore. The diamonds no longer have any reason to give a shit. The crystal gems weren't fighting for a damn thing. Nothing has any purpose in the story any more.

It was all just a big waste of time.

I'll reiterate what I said back when season 1 was airing. They should have ended it at Too Many Birthdays, ended it with Steven dying of old age and his own disgusting lack of self control. Watching as the gems argued and pleaded and begged for him not to die, and then faded out. Curtains. The next episode could have been a funeral.

It would have been glorious.

Now? There is nothing meaningful about this story, there is no power in it's message. At best, it's become a meme. A bad joke.

I think it's funny you call yourself a "writer" and go on and on about the sacredness of the craft, then you suggest something impossible within the constraints of the work.

This is an animated cartoon for children, and you are SERIOUSLY advocating for it to end with the main child character, the anchor of audience identification, dying horribly.

You might as well have said, "wtf, why didn't sugar just end the series with a huge lesbian orgy and steven getting smothered to death by amythest's sick titties".

I'm not a fan of the direction the show has taken, but what you're suggesting would've been an even greater sin than just the story taking an unsatisfying turn- it would be smothering the story in the cradle.

You haven't watched the first season in a while I take it, but the character had no redeeming qualities. It would have been an acceptable, even admirable literary move to kill steven in season one and make the story a lesson on the importance of taking control of your mind before it kills you.

Except she never spilled it out at all: the only way for her to let Steven know was to figuratively let him read her mind by literally *watching her memories*. After that the geas was contravented enough that she was freed of it and she could talk about it.

indeed, when PD took the form of a rose quartz, she still was PD and nothing could change that, pearl knew this fact and still loved her diamond, to pearl PD was just an eccentric and fucked up weird gem but still her owner and the gem she loved the most.
if it wasn't for steven, she'll shatter herself, in fact I think she sees steven as a new pink diamond who will eventually die of old age and get her diamond back.

Uh, where do you think the majority of the CG came from? CG poofed/cracked the Beta/Homeworld gems then 'Rose' would heal them and 'covert' them to the CG's side. It was less PD/Rose being retarded and more her trying to emphasize the point to her fellow Diamonds that the CG rebellion was serious business and building up her own numbers. The whole point of not making them not too strong was they WOULD end up in a shitty situation like Jasper did, being too strong to be overcome and converted, so being an asset to Homeworld instead of the CGs. Only a small minority of Earth Gems survived the war on Homeworld's side. Most of them became CGs; although that ended up being an even worse fate. That still wasn't PD's fault tho, how could she have anticipated the Diamond nuke?

I am no fan of jasper but what happened to her was cruel and something tells me that the diamonds cannot heal corruption.

I would believe that if there was evidence of it. Making her CG loyal troops and PD loyal troops fight against and kill each other for her is the dumbest part of her plan to start a war against herself, but if her idea behind it was to do as you said and heal+convert every one of her soldiers that she poofed or cracked in battle then that would make her slightly less shitty. We know a lot of them did get shattered though, and she either failed to convert or didn't try to convert Jasper and all the Earth gems at the zoo, so she's still kind of shitty regardless.

If the Beta Kindergarten gems were born immediately having to fight for their lives against Crystal Gems like Jasper and Eyeball implied, and Rose didn't attack the kindergarten with the intent to convert them, then no, they never get a choice in joining the war and none of them get a chance to consider fighting on the other side, and that's fucked up.

If she started the rebellion against the Diamond authority as Pink instead of Rose there wouldn't have to be any manipulating, and her troops wouldn't have had to fight against each other, and the corruption nuke wouldn't have happened

I do agree the show is spectacularly bad at handling consequences. Ever since season 2 the show has steadfastly stuck to the status quo by reducing the impact of any change. Can't disrupt things too much. New characters? They live on their own. Enemies? They're off doing their own stuff, no pressure. Revelations about characters? Nahh, they were pretty much as you thought they were, they just have a different name.

To be fair, I don't think there'd be a positive conversation Rose could have with the other gems about this. Steven+Pearl being able to talk down Sapphire doesn't mean Rose+Pearl would've been able to.

Her force would be at maximum strength with a lot less room to grow, she has to fight honest battles against Blue and Yellow which means she gets her ass kicked more often (she was already losing when she faked her shattering), and she eventually loses the much shorter war with Yellow taking her colony away since she always thought Pink wasn't ready, and Earth gets colonized anyway.
