We already do get to glimpse into his mind as someone who intentionally shuns away negative thoughts, but he finds too much zest in life and already pushed through personal tragedies (especially of the marriage kind) to be pushed toward suicide, at least as we see him now. We've not once seen him hint at wanting to end his ride, which a hack writer might say means he's a perfect character to do it to because "Depression can get anyone" but you genuinely have to build up to it narratively. With a person in real life, there's gonna be this whole part of that person you didn't know because they didn't let you, so using that for your narrative would be genuine if Bojack Horseman was a story told only from Bojack's POV, but that's not the case. We've seen Mr. Peanutbutter's mindset, we know what he is, we know what things get to him. So, if a hack writer were to use that excuse, that would mean, narratively, that PB hid it from the viewers, which doesn't make sense because he doesn't realize he's in a tv show (or at least, this specific tv show.). I also think its not particularly good to have the only guy who saved Bojack from letting himself die in the pool to off himself instead. I mean, maybe that'd be poetic, but again it shows PB's general regard for life.
Maybe if they take the time to show the divorce's effect on him, really work the angle of how empty PB feels when he's alone, then it would work. But if they go for the surprise factor, then they'd be better off hitting a different character. My vote would be Princess Carolyn, because while PB can push out his negative thoughts with the ease that comes with being an idiot, PC is constantly shown to force herself through her problems. PC's the one whose had setback after setback and I could definitely see her finally breaking, just deciding to not land on her feet.
But honestly, I don't think they'll go for a surprise suicide at all.
