>>101580650There are exceptions to the following (which is when the show can deliver) but for the most part, what happens with the new Ducktales is...
* Despite it being ostentably built on Scrooge and Co's thirst for adventures, almost none of their travels are taken seriously. Either the characters (especially the nephews) are too snarky and Above Engaging, or the scenarios don't even try to raise the stakes. No sincerity nor sense of wonder to be found as a result. Which ya know it's kinda important if you wanna do justice to a franchise built on the joys of adventure.
*The staff claims loyalty to the classic comics that made these characters beloved in the first place, yet go out of their way to change almost everything from the source material. Especially notable with the nephews, Gyro and his Little Helper, Glomgold, etc...But hey, they make random references to Rosa's work here and there, so that means they get it, right? Nah.
* The show is focused on the kids. The nephews just don't make engaging protagonists on their own, either because they're snarking to no end or because their so called trendy humor falls flat. On the other side of the scale is Webby. Who mind, is actually closer in characterization to the old nephews, and an enjoyable character on her own...but they abuse her to death. Which shouldn't be a problem in a show where you have fucking Scrooge McDuck and Donald Duck at your disposal but here we are.
* Speaking of Donald, they made a big deal out of bringing him back as a vital part of the main cast, well they could have fooled me; it's rare when he gets something beyond a cameo and in fact his role is written to facilitate leaving him out of any adventures the cast may take. Add to this that he's one of the very few in the cast with emotional resonance and his absence hurts even further.
