I get that Fox had every right to make them their own thing, but they were extremely disappointing to me as a big fan of the original comics. Just about every character was drastically different than they are in the books, and the storylines were so weak despite having so much to draw from.

It's more that First Class is just so incredibly shit.
Horrible script, borderline mediocre acting, and bland story.

DOFP is at least well made. Apocalypse is the best of the Prequel trilogy anyway, just on pure entertainment value.

the future part of dofp is probably the peak of x-men series for me. there's no quipping. it's just pure action and mutants using their abilities effectively. blink creating a portal for colossus to do a fastball special. that was cool. no cringe moments.

Fox-Men took a lot of liberty with the source material, but when they hit high, they made masterpieces
X1, X2, Logan, DP, DOFP, Legion are masterpieces that disney would never do.

Sure, a lot of things could have been better. And frankly, the movies were good in spite of the Fox, rather than because of the Fox, but still.

However, because they are already done, there is hope that disney will keep the tone similar, or try to push the envelope with the x-folks.

Whatever happens in the future, I want to believe

Wolverine was decent, X-Men days of the future past was ok, logan was great and the first 2 xmen were ok too.

The continuity and timeline kinda drove people away from this franchise. Im glad that dark phoenix was taken out of the release schedule, im pretty sure it was gonna fucking suck

Things first went really wrong, I think, with the concept for X-Men 3: "this is the third movie in the series, and a series has to be a trilogy, so that means this is the end, so that means we've got to blow everything up for its own sake because that's what happens in endings."

It amounted to wanton destruction of the setting and characters seemingly because of a lack of vision that a superhero series could go on any longer, which made it considerably difficult for the franchise to move forward, and on top of that, needless destruction didn't make for a very satisfying movie in itself.

Disney’s gonna kid-ify them. At least most of the Fox movies had mature themes. I will miss them. Best team movie was either X2 or DOFP. Best solo was Logan. All three of those would be too good for the MCU.

The timeline got so screwy and fucked up and the continuity was so wonky with the same characters appearing at different points in the timeline that nothing made any sense. Multiple contradictory versions of White Queen, Angel, Jubilee, Cyclops, etc. Hugh Jackman was a good Wolverine but the film makers don't realize that you can get too much of a good thing. Great characters like Cyclops and Storm became less than second fiddle; no time was spent on developing them at all. The movies became preoccupied with cramming as many new mutants into every installment as possible. This resulted in even less time to flesh out any of the characters. They should have just focused on a core of 5 or so characters, mixing it up slightly with each new movie. The main antagonist in almost every movie became Magneto, milking the tragic holocaust backstory for pathos. Even when he wasn't an antagonist he was an antihero. The minor, usually villainous character of Mystique was elevated to a star hero just based on Jennifer Lawrence's popularity. Characters' trademark appearances and disabilities were undone either for the sake of convenience or actor vanity, so Mystique was often not blue, Beast turned back into a normal looking human, Professor X was able to walk after being crippled, etc.

The movies had a bit of a renaissance with the R-rated Logan and Deadpool, but it was too little too late. I honestly think the franchise is better off in Marvel's hands.
