>>101504946Honestly, I think people just make too many assumptions one way or another and end up trying too hard to fit black characters into a mold instead of writing them as regular characters.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that as far as visual design, a lot of people just don't bother learning how to use costume colors for other skin pigmentations, even though if you did your homework dark skin is just working with shades of orange instead of light reds. It's funny, because the fact that white skin is somewhat translucent makes coloring that pigmentation a little more involved than with brown skin, which can come off pretty monochromatic at times unless you use cool colored lighting. I guess there's also a fear of making it look too stereotypical or flamboyant, but it just seems pretty limiting. Plus its somewhat annoying when artists try to be "in with the urban youth" and just have some generic looking motherfucker wearing supremes and adidas instead of something unique and interesting. That's probably what it boils down to, people trying to fit a black character into a box to be safe instead of taking risks and doing more unique stuff that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with their background.
