Bat-Mite's presence sends a pretty loud and clear signal that we are going into silly/camp Batman. There's never really that much contrast when he's involved.
I've never seen Bat-Mite in a self-professed "serious" Batman story apart from Morrison's run. He fits the tone of the stories he's in and doesn't break that much immersion, since you know exactly what you are going to get when Bat-Mite's involved.
Meanwhile, we are expected to take the Lazarus Pits at face value even in the most diehard serious storylines that feature them, and accept the whole "you lose sanity" BS as if that wasn't just a dumb way to try and make a resurrection plot device seem like less of a plot device. The Lazarus Pits have singlehandedly ruined what little tension death held in the Batman universe since all a major character has to do to bring someone back is just drag their corpse to a Lazarus Pit and problem solved.
