Like Frank Miller has made it clear that he only ever wanted to make crime comics, but no one was doing crime comics at major publishers, so he turned Daredevil into the crime comic he wanted to make. If he had just gotten to make some noir comics we likely could've never gotten DRK. Superhero comics were just the only real way to earn a living in the industry for a long time.
Even Vertigo has turned into a joke because of how WB handles the contracts so it's not even 100% creator owned anymore. So even people like Scott Snyder and Morrison took their original ideas elsewhere
