>>101342240I want you to know how much I'm glad that someone remembers that dub. No one fucking talks about it.
I was fine with the name changes but they were clearly about to run into some problems when Detective Conan is so heavy on Japanese lore, wordplay, and locations. They changed Heiji/Harley to being from Alberta instead of Osaka, so I'm wondering how they'd have done Movie 7 (which was the very next one to dub had they gotten rights for any extra movies which sold better than the series) since it was pretty heavy on Japanese shit, the entire flashback was of Kazuha or I think her name was kearstin in the dub, being a little jap girl singing a song about japanese streets, and the song about japanese streets even became a plot point for solving the murder.
It's not even Funi's fault, I think TMS required localization changes, and Case Closed came from Detective Conan being a copyright issue for using the name conan in america.
I think they kinda started backing off of it with the movies, they even had "DETECTIVE CONAN" logos during the movie openings, whereas they had to put case closed's logo over any DC logos for the series. I think they didn't bother for any localization in the last two movies where they clearly used japanese names, casually referred to kanji, etc.
I wish I could've recorded its airings on [as] because as far as I know, with all of the [as] VHS recordings that have been shared, none have case closed, the only few things I can find are promos and a short version of the theme airing on the channel.
