First of all, do not absolutely believe what you read that "oh no it's not safe", as i said we had only 2 compared to britain's 7 and france's 13.
Don't go to tunis the capital because it has nothing for a tourist.
If you just want to stay in hotels, go to Jerbaa, Hammamet, nabeul or sousse(not recommended cause it's more crowded)
If you want to visit monuments, just google search them, you might want to be in a tour or something if you can't get to travel alone.
Visit the old cities(the inner cities with walls) of each city but stick to the main roads so you won't get lost, you will find traditional cultural things to buy there. Look for a chéchia to buy.
If you decide to come to kairouan, visit the aghlabid pools, the carpet museum, taste the makroudh, visit sidi sahbi mosque and the grand mosque inside the old city and finally taste the léblébi.
Absolutely taste the olive oil and harissa.
