Just finished watching Incredibles 2, and I don't mind Evelyn as a villain, since I think the obviousness of her villainy added to her character.
It seems pretty clear that Evelyn is an unironic genius, and her observations about the world are accurate if not a bit cynical. However, her intellect only serves to deepen her pessimistic outlook on the world when tragedy occurs, and this is only worsened by her role playing second fiddle to her charming but naive brother. It's very clear that Evelyn is legit in need of help, as evidenced by guarded demeanor, her tendency to stick to the shadows, her intense outbursts, and her clear alcoholic tendencies. Of course, all this frustration manifest against some convenient idea, and she uses all her intelligence to manipulate and desecrate the idea of superheroes. This is evidenced by the success she has with neutralizing the heroes, only being stopped by a factor she had no way of planning for, in terms of villain plans hers was pretty solid. However, She fails as a twist villain because she is literally incapable of hiding her hate for the optimistic ideals that superheroes represent, and her "screensaver" persona is just another indication of this idea. So, overall while I think her role as a villian is open to some criticism, her role as a character in the film is fucking fantastic. However, this analysis only comes after one viewing so maybe further viewings will alter my opinion on the character. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of her character is her refusal to intentionally hide behind a mask or secret identity. There seems to be some distinction between what Evelyn deavor the person wants, and what the "screensaver" wants, this disconnect is furthered by the fact that she never opposes Elastigirl under the "screensaver" moniker, nor does she ever make an effort to conceal her identity.
Also I want her to sit on my face.
