The mother immediately realizes her mistake with the dumpling and why her son left, becoming sad and depressed.
It is the father that calls the son, and then BOTH talk about what happened between them (the mother, through the dumpling metaphor finally understands what happened between her and the son).
They bury the hatchet and become a family again (the implication being that her son making a family of his own doesn't mean he will be gone from her life, which is represented of the three of them making dumplings together).
Its cute, but unless you realize what the dumpling is about, a really upsetting story with an esoteric ending(?).
