Anyway, I feel they planned it. Season one had mentions of the Great Monster Massacre and framed it as a genuine war crime covered up by Mewnian cultural practices. Nefcy said Toffee was basically Monster Magneto. I don't feel Lobster Claws undermines the oppression angle because not everyone in an oppressed group is automatically good because of victimhood. If anything, shitty material conditions as a result of oppression are condusive to assholish behviour. I think Lobster Claws is subtle in that respect.
I really hope they continue with that. Tom goes on this big rant about how his and Star's relationship is this testament to improving relations. When they break up, it'll be interesting to see if Tom (who has repeatedly demonstrated his apolitical nature and willingness to deceive Star) will try to use that to guilt trip her into staying with him.
