Is there a reason 4chan hates this show?

I like it. It's pretty and cute and has good music and the "SJW shit" isn't as bad as some have described.

/pol/fags and obnoxious children of liberal parents hate it because le ebic culture wars - they've basically been brainwashed into seeing cartoons as a literal pitch where their team is fighting another team.

Others "hate" the show because it had promise but the pacing is very very poor and the reveals rather underwhelming. I think most would argue that the ending of season 1 was the peak of the show.

I mean I like it too but my major issue, like with most successful shows on CN, is their dumb shit way of milking views for advertisers and trying to justify shitty merch. Sincere hypetrain supporters dive off because waiting for more is just to boring or agonizing.

The show is okay. But it has a few large flaws
1) the plot involving any gems is usually more interesting than anything involving the town residents....but we get probably 50/50 of each.
2)the reliance on PERSONAL DRAMAZ OMGZORZ EVERYONE IS SOOO TRAGIC! Gets boring, then grating, then straight up enraging as these characters who live for thousands of years time and time again dredge up enough personal drama to burst into tears, run away from their friends, or lash out in ways that seem entirely outlandish for anything less than an angsty teenager.
3) [perhaps a corrollary to 2 but whatever] Steven and his talk-no-jutsu. Sure there are a handful of exceptions to it working. But just once I'd like whoever Steven is screeching at because they dared to argue/fight turns and says "No. Not right now. I dont want to talk about it right now. Tomorrow. The day after. NOT. NOW." This is a normal thing for people to do who get a bit wrapped up in their emotions. But nah, Steven makes them deal with whatever the issues is RIGHT NAAAOW. Because HE said so. It is irritating. Plus Steven's voice is so damn squeaky when he shouts "STAAAAHHHHP!" every other fricken episode.
Steven as a character is by far the weakest part of the show. And to make matters more confusing, the show is supposed to be about Steven growing and learning...but the show bends over backwards to maintain some mythical innocence of Steven's that they have Connie show up to fight for him....because Steven can't learn to fight for himself? Because you can't be a fighter and maintain compassion and kindness? I dont understand the reason for it other than another STRONK WOMYN character. It seems strange that in a show about the mc growing and learning, he allows someone else to shoulder the burden of fighting instead of taking up the responsibility himself.

The lore, the space adventures, the characters are all mostly pretty good. Even excellent at times.

I feel it hits me over the head with the melodrama and moralising. I say this as someone who loves melodrama (I'm a fat white woman who loves Wuthering Heights) and is a colossal moralfag.

I also find the art style pretty grating. I know "CalArts" was a big meme five minutes ago, but I generally am okay with the "style" provides it looks nice and the characters are consistent. I think Steven, Sadie, and Lars looks like a gross blobs while characters like Pearl and Connie are great. When I say consistent, I don't mean "the same in every panel". Some shows' emotional tones (ex. Wacky hijinks) fit with flucuating charavter designs and proportions (Ren and Stimpy). However, in a dramatic show like Steven Universe, the flucuations of the characters bodies should be minimized. Even then, rarely is the consistency a matter of deliberate artistic choice (Ren and Stimpy, again) but because the creators gave zero fucks.

Basically, it's a bit cutesy but I like the worldbuilding and some character arcs (ie. Pearl and her Snape-ish tendencies) a lot. Unfortunately it's a little too saccharine and prone to undermining itself through laziness.

It, like Sonic, has a highly vitriolic and SJW fandom that the show panders to on some level. I want an episode where Steven's Trump-loving uncle calls Bismuth a nigger to own the libs once and for all.

Saying 4chan hates it is a bit of a strong statement. If 4chan hated it 100% unconditionally then there wouldn't be constant fanboy threads every time there was a Steven Bomb. But there is. Fact is, the people who don't like the show come out of the woodwork whenever the show isn't actively doing anything--same as they do for any show, really. It's been years since Gravity Falls ended and yet people still screech about how it was like the worst, guys, even though there were multiple daily fanboy threads on the damn show while it was running.

4chan only 'hates' Steven Universe in the same way it 'hates' everything--nothing is going on with the thing at the time and the people on this site like to bitch about things.

None of this means SU doesn't have glaring flaws but I think people who make these 'WHY DOES 4CHAN HATE X???' threads are overlooking that there is next to nothing that the people on this site unanimously like. The only thing I can think of that hasn't gotten frequent hate threads is The Iron Giant.

It took a sharp dip in quality after Season 1.

It seems like Rebecca knew exactly how she wanted to build up to the Jailbreak Episode, and knew how to execute that shit perfectly. Then everything afterwards like the Cluster, Malachite, Steven and Amythests Fusion, the Trial on Homeworld, all she had no idea how she was going to execute. She knew how to build up to some of it, and then when it came time to execute it was pretty poor.

I do think she thoroughly thought out all of the lore and background detail, but genually has no idea what she is going to do now. Think of it like this. She has a very rough outline for the rest of the series, where she once had a nice thick description for everything she would do in season 1 and early season 2

So in that time where she doesn't know what she's going to do to get to the next point we get stuck with nothing but Townie Episodes that suck and are the absoulute least interesting part of the series. You have introduced the major antagonists for the series and yet we are still thumbling around with Sadie and her and band that will have no major impact on the current threat at hand. You are taking time away from the aspect everyone is wanting to see, and you are taking away action pieces so we can spend so much time focusing on the most boring characters in your Series. We are more than 4 or 5 seasons in. I STILL don't care

Well OP, let me give you the run down.

Now you see SU came out right around the time where Adventure Time felt like it was starting to go stale (this is debated to be around season 4 or 5), Gravity Falls was in infinite hiatus, and HSG had been banned from /co/.
Now you might be wondering what HSG has to do with this, this is because HSG was the main source of toxic generals that discussed fucking nothing and were totally off-topic, when one got banned, the "fandom" latched onto another show and toxified it on /co/ by flooding into the threads.

But anyway, SU flew under /co/'s radar for the most part until March of 2015, this is when the first "Steven Bomb" happened to wrap up season 1 and anons lost their fucking minds over it. I'm talking threads getting 700+ posts in less than 30 minutes for about 4 days straight.

With the first season over, the fanbase for SU swelled and all those people from other toxic fandoms finally noticed the show and began to flood in in earnest. Before then their presence was minor and not the massive fuckwit mentality of "I have to make 50 threads about this show every day!"

So then more threads were being made, more threads = popular, popularity = "I must hate this because X people like it".
Of course tumblr also latched onto it because of gay representation or whatever and so there was now a political foothold for thread derailment by anons who have nothing better to do than shitpost all day everyday.

Then the hiatuses happened and SUG became the new FG which was the new GFG which was the new HSG.
Then all generals were banned from /co/ because generals became synonymous with off-topic.

So, the hate comes from a combination of things.
Generally speaking, anything that has more than 8 threads going at any given time has a high chance of triggering a sperg who has to make sure everyone knows how much they hate this and make sure to announce it on a daily basis with even more threads about it.

Most of 4chan hasn't even watched it. At the time I started watching it I was a full blown /pol/fag but I saw past the SJW shit because there was very little to begin with. Although, I will say it got incredibly cringeworthy right at keystone motel and shit like smoky quartz and the constant fucking crying in every single "emotional" scene really pisses me off. Steven doesn't really seem to be maturing either, just turning into a bigger and bigger bitch.

Just like most decent or good things, it's ruined by people who are fans of the thing rather than the source material itself.

Stopped watching sometime in season 2.
I forced myself to sit through the townie and monster-of-the-week episodes of season one because I felt the show had potential. Then Lapid eas introduced and we started getting some of that dank lore. Then jailbreak happened and that was boner inducing.
And that was it, they were back on earth and back to the townie. There were occasional peridot episodes and those were good but that got zuked. Then when malachite unfused we started getting Jasper episodes and those were terrible. I still don't know why so many people love that failure. Then it was straight back to townies and that's when I dropped the show.
The show was like watching a talented child with a bright future being force-fed glue and paint chips by their parent.

It's exactly as bad as described. You have an intersex character everyone's attracted to who grows facial hair and has "they" pronouns, a teen boy dress up in full drag (not played for laughs), a pair of lesbians lauded as the ultimate relationship, and discrimination against heterogeneous fusion that's pretty obviously meant to evoke interracial and other taboo relationships.

I enjoy SU, but you'd have to be retarded not to see the extremely progressive influence in the show.

I think the quality going down from season 1 and the inconsistency the show has caused a lot of people to abandon ship. The show has a whole lot of filler, and the story progresses at the rate of a snail. It tries really hard to make things more complicated, but it just makes more holes in the story.
