I know this show got a lot of hate during the last season, but now that the dust and the autistic screeching has settled, why?

Did /co/ hate Rick and Morty just because of its obnoxious fanbase and the memes it spawned? Or did you guys have a legitimate reasons such as the animation style, or the Superjail-esque atmosphere of chaos and maudlin humor?

His father is literally a cuck. They brought his mom's black lover over remember? And he accepted it. The only reason Beth stayed with him was the kids, and he got her knocked up when she was a teen. The slang term also means a man who lets the wife do whatever, and in this definition she is definitely correct.

It's an okay show. It can be funny. The worst parts of it are when it's trying to be serious. I can't take the awkward nihilism seriously at all, it just makes me think of edgy teenagers.

I liked S1 just because it was wacky random adventures with grandad. The show writers became aware anything they shit out will sell and then from there creativity dropped.

Season 3 episodes I liked were "The Rickshank Rickdemption", "The Whirly Dirly Conspiracy", "Rest and Ricklaxation", and "The Ricklantis Mixup". Everything else ranges from boring to awful.

This is a good point. People used to consistently shit on Season 2. But then Season 3 comes along, and suddenly Season 2 is almost as good as Season 1.
Who wants to bet the same will happen to Season 3 once Season 4 comes out?

I watched the entire show after the hype died down, so I could form my own opinion. Season 2 is my favorite season. I don't think the third season was bad, it's just that it had a lot of "meh" episodes, especially compared to the last season. And I wasn't really invested in the main plot.

I don't see why people think this show is so nihilistic and dark. But then again, I don't take Rick's attitude as anything but his own nihilism, rather than something the show is trying to push as the truth. But I could easily be wrong, since I'm dumb and I'm really bad at noticing subtext.

fanbase, and season 3 mostly. The show got too "smart." I'm a big fan of justin roiland's humor, and the show started to distance itself from stupid jokes.

The Australia episode was amazing.

r&m was okay when it was world building, then they decided to focus on the rest of family for whatever reason. they've already given tidbits about each member, but the later episodes just hammer on that already known information and make an entire episode based off of it. also, the jokes got old.

We can all agree that the rest of the family never should have existed right? Waifufagging aside, they contribute literally nothing funny or noteworthy to the entire show and are only there for Harmon to write "DEEP" "INTELLIGENT" family drama. The show should have stayed Rick and Morty and have the others show up as side characters every 3-4 episodes or so, they're just not entertaining in the slightest.

Comedy-wise it just wasn't funny alot of the times. There wasn't as many jokes per episode as before and the ones that were there fell flat a lot.

Drama-wise it relayed too heavily on monologues and flat out telling the viewer the moral and emotions the characters are feeling rather then showing them naturally.

Season 3 is also the season where characters have become the most flanderized. Rick used to be a super-genius who tended to be careless and lazy and would frequently not think things through. Now all of a sudden he is a literal God who nobody can even touch because he's just that cool. Beth was largely underused had potential for being a interesting character whose intense father issues bothering into an Electra Complex has largely warped her view of what relationships should be. Instead we learn that she was always psychotic and Rick's effective on her child rearing is just barely touched upon.

Rick and Morty at its best is surrealist sci-fi with tinges of absurdism between two solid characters who play off each other excellently. At its worst it’s shitty family drama that tries too hard to be Morel Orel but clearly doesn’t understand what made it work, with lots of hamfisted pop culture teardowns and enough smug entry level “nihilism” to make you want to puke your guts out.

It can be really good and really bad. S1 has more bad than good, S3 had more good than bad. In general the more time we spend on Earth or in badly done pop culture parodies the worse the storytelling gets.

I liked it but also started to notice that they are trying to be more serious and introduce more dark tones in relation to their massive audience of people who believe that this show is something super-intelligent instead of a dumb comedy about exploring stupid shit. They are trying to pull a Morel Orel but don't have nearly the character development to do it.

It's also not related to the show itself but I think way to many people misunderstand that Rick is a very bad person and is in no way a role model that should be looked up to or considered a voice of reason. I feel a lot of both people who like and hate they show think that for some reason.
